Google has announced some new features and changes to pricing for its latest video generation models: Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast. For starters, Google said that both models are now "stable and ready for scaled production use in the Gemini API," moving beyond their testing phase.
Running the models to generate high-quality videos burns a smaller hole in your pocket, as the search giant now charges $0.40/second (instead of $0.75/second) for video and audio output using Veo 3. For Veo 3 Fast, the price has reduced from $0.40/second to $0.15/second. Google confirmed in its blog post that the new price reductions for the two models are effective now.
Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast now support the 9:16 aspect ratio. You can use the AI models to generate vertical videos for social media and mobile-first use cases by setting the "aspectRatio" parameter to "9:16."
While Veo 3 is capable of generating videos in 4K resolution, its implementation in the Gemini API has been limited to 720p. This is changing now as Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast can generate higher quality videos in 1080p. You need to set the "resolution" parameter to "1080p" to use the updated quality option, which currently works for the 16:9 aspect ratio only.
For the uninitiated, Google introduced the Veo 3 model at this year"s I/O 2025 developer conference, widely seen as a response to OpenAI"s Sora. The video generation model was initially available in 70 countries and later expanded to cover a total of 140 countries and regions.
Veo 3 brings several upgrades over Veo 2 in the form of improved creative control, better 4K support, better real-world physics, greater realism, and enhanced prompt adherence. One of its highlights is the ability to turn images into videos and natively generate synchronized audio to go with it.
A paid public preview of Veo 3 for Gemini API and Vertex AI was launched in July this year. The video generation model also powers several public-facing apps and services, such as eight-second videos in Gemini, Google Vids, Flow, and, more recently, the "Photo to video" feature in the Google Photos app.
