Microsoft and Meta unveil Xbox VR headset, but stocks are 'extremely limited'

Microsoft"s latest hardware collaboration is with Meta"s Quest virtual reality division. While only teased over a year ago, the company today officially unveiled the brand-new Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition bundle, which contains both Xbox-themed hardware and a Game Pass Ultimate subscription for easily jumping into cloud play.

"Over the past several years, Xbox has expanded the Xbox cloud gaming experience to more places and more players," said Microsoft"s Corporate Vice President, Gaming Partnerships and Business Development, Lori Wright. "Today, with the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition, we are bringing this vision to life with a new design that celebrates Xbox’s iconic aesthetic."

The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition bundle lands at $399.99 and launches today.

The box comes with a custom-painted Meta Quest 3S with 128 GB of internal storage. As can be seen in the promotional images, it sports an exclusive Xbox Carbon Black and Velocity Green color scheme rather than the standard white of the normal hardware.

Alongside it, the bundle carries matching Touch Plus controllers, a limited-edition Xbox Wireless Controller, the Elite Strap for the headset, and three months each of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Meta Horizon+ subscriptions.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is already available as an app on Meta headsets, offering access to the company"s huge wealth of Game Pass Ultimate games (as well as some owned ones) via the cloud. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn"t offer any standalone VR experiences within the headset. Other than being Xbox-themed, the device will function just like a regular Meta Quest 3S, with both standalone and PC-connected usage being possible.

This isn"t a product that will be available in large quantities. Microsoft says that only an "extremely limited" number of these special edition VR headset bundles are being made and that "once they’re gone, they’re gone."

The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition is available to purchase now on meta.com, Best Buy (USA), Argos (UK), and EE (UK).
