Microsoft president leaves to run HP's Autonomy division

Microsoft’s president of North America, Robert Youngjohns, has decided to take his talents to HP where he will try to revive the struggling Autonomy division. HP purchased Autonomy for a staggering $10.3 billion dollars in August 2011, and although the company has some cool technology (IDOL, for example), it has struggled to make money for HP.

As reported by AllThingsD, HP believes the biggest issue with Autonomy is their failure to close deals. Youngjohns was the Executive Vice President of Sales when he worked for Sun Microsystems during the dot-com days, so that experience could help his new company.

For those who aren’t familiar with Autonomy, the company creates software that can analyze and extract meaning from any type of data. For example, the software can be designed to see a newspaper article or magazine cover and display extra information based on that. When we were at HP Discover in Las Vegas, part of the demo showed Iron Man popping out of a poster, moving around, and then flying off into the distance.

We wish Robert Youngjohns the best as he has an uphill climb to market and sell this innovative technology.
