Minecraft The Wild Update comes out in 2022 with Ancient Cities, frogs, and more

Mojang Studios is planning to launch the Minecraft Caves & Cliffs: Part II later this year with world generation overhauls, but it"s also working on the next major update coming after that. Announced during the Minecraft Live conference, The Wild update carries new and updated biomes, new critters and blocks, plus more.

The previously announced Deep Dark for the Caves & Cliffs Update is now part of The Wild, and it offers players ancient cities to explore while avoiding eyeless mobs like the new sound-chasing Warden mini-bosses and the shrieking Skulkers. Meanwhile, the new Mangrove Swamps will bring in a fresh tree type, tadpoles that grow into various types of frogs, as well as fireflies.

The update is also making clay easier to get in large quantities with the use of the new Mud block, which players can form by using water on a dirt block. Boats can be fitted with chests following the update too, giving water trips much less leg room but way more storage.

Minecraft The Wild is coming out sometime in 2022. At the same time, Mojang revealed Minecraft is finally coming to Xbox Game Pass for PC subscription later this year, and it will be both the Java and Bedrock versions.

The Minecraft ARPG spin-off Minecraft Dungeons was also part of the celebration event today, with the developer announcing Seasonal Adventures containing weekly challenges across paid and free progression tracks, a new single-player experience (The Tower) offering bi-monthly levels, a new hub, and more. Akin to Halo Infinite, any purchased battle passes will be available indefinitely to claim rewards. All this launches in December.
