Spotify for Xbox One available from today

The Spotify app for the Xbox One will be available today for download from the Xbox Store; the app is already visible but some users are reporting that the download isn’t live just yet. Microsoft is playing catch up in regards to Spotify as the app has been available on PlayStation since 2015 as a console exclusive.

Once the download is available, installation will be “super easy”, just follow these instructions:

  1. Go to the Xbox Store on your Xbox One.
  2. Download and install the “Spotify Music – for Xbox" app.
  3. Log in to Spotify or create and account.

In terms of pricing, the Xbox One app will be exactly the same as on desktop; you’ll be able to access Spotify’s library for free so long as you’re prepared to listen to adverts between tracks. If you want to avoid the ads you can upgrade to Spotify Premium for $9.99/£9.99.

One of the cool features of Spotify on Xbox One will be that you can control what music is being played through your phone, laptop or tablet with Spotify Connect. Just connect your Xbox One and the Spotify app on your other to the same Wi-Fi network, from there find ‘Devices Available’ on your phone, tablet or laptop and select your Xbox One to control playback without exiting your game.
