Spotify to make big announcement next week

Spotify"s launch in the US in July 2011 has been highly successful so far for the streaming music service. It helped that Spotify allowed people to listen for free to its 15 million music tracks (with ads) on the PC platform for six months. Now it looks like Spotify has another big reveal to make and it"s just a few days away.

News.com reports that Spotify has sent out invites to select members of the media for a press event it is hosting in New York City on Wednesday, April 18th. At the moment, all the company is saying is that it will have a "special announcement" at the event.

Spotify has already made a couple of interesting reveals just this past week. It launched the Spotify Play Button, a web widget that allows any user to add a playlist from the service to a website or social networking page that can be accessed by anyone else. Later in the week, the company announced that it was the first streaming music service to obtain the rights to all of the songs from The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

So what does Spotify have in store for us next week? There"s speculation that it will announce some new ways to recommend playlists to others. We will know all on Wednesday.
