The Initiative officially takes the wraps off Perfect Dark at The Game Awards 2020

In a surprise announcement during Geoff Keighley"s ongoing The Game Awards event, Microsoft"s The Initiative studio at long last gave folks a peek at its first project. And as the rumors had pointed out previously, we are indeed presented with a Perfect Dark reboot. You can catch the announcement cinematic trailer above.

For those not familiar, Perfect Dark was a first-person shooter developed by Rare and released in May 22, 2000 for the Nintendo 64. Putting folks in the shoes of Joanna Dark of the Carrington Institute - nicknamed "Perfect Dark" due to her training scores -, the story revolves around the extraction of a defector from the dataDyne (seen in the trailer above at 1:32).

As teased by Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty at the end of the Xbox Games Showcase back in July, the company certainly did have more reveals up its sleeve during 2020. You can find below a brief developer interview with the folks from The Initiative, highlighting the reasoning behind choosing this IP to reboot, as well as the focus on eco sci-fi:

All that is known currently is that Perfect Dark is in early development and will be coming to Game Pass on day one, as well as the Xbox Series X|S. Though not listed on the product page just yet, it"s safe to assume a PC release is on the cards too.

It goes without saying, there is currently no release date even being hinted at.
