It"s been half a decade since Apple started drifting away from Intel toward its home-made Apple Silicon. While the company has supported Intel Macs all these years, their eventual end-of-life is inevitable.
To that end, Apple added the MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020) to its list of vintage devices on the final day of 2025. It"s the last Intel-based MacBook Air released in March 2020 before Apple launched the M1 MacBook Air.
Apple has added several other devices to its vintage and obsolete lists, including the iPhone 11 Pro, Apple Watch Series 5 (all variants), 128GB iPhone 8 Plus, and iPad Air 3 cellular models. iPhone 11 Pro has joined its pricier sibling, iPhone 11 Pro Max, which was already on the list. Meanwhile, the 64GB and 256GB variants of the iPhone 8 Plus have been on the vintage list since last year.
An Apple device is considered "vintage" after five years from its end of sale. It stops receiving new software updates; however, Apple continues to offer critical security updates, hardware support, and spare parts, subject to availability.
It"s interesting to see that the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are on the list of devices that support the latest iOS 26 update. While macOS 26 Tahoe supports some Intel-based Macs, the newly added vintage MacBook Air isn"t one of them.
The latest update comes just a month after Apple added the original iPhone SE to its list of obsolete devices. This happens seven years after a product"s end of sale, and such devices are not eligible for any software updates or hardware support.
Last year, we also saw several other Apple devices, including Apple Watch Series 4, MacBook Pro 15-inch (2019), MacBook Pro 15-inch (2017), and MacBook Air 11-inch (Early 2015), joining the list of vintage and obsolete devices.
