The “normal” spectrum? A spectrum defines an entire range, not a single point...

By using the word spectrum, are you trying to suggest that your company hires people who exhibit what you perceive as autistic or aspergic traits?

Whoever is doing the hiring must be doing something right then. "Managing programmers is like herding cats" is the classic way of describing it.

A sign of a company that believed their own HR BS about "team oriented players" is that none of this discussion makes sense to them. The environment has "degraded to the mean" and produced a self-fulfilling monoculture that we tend to see everywhere.

Hiring super-smart "team players" is still a recipe for ending up with super-stupid "group think" - why Google's famous intensely difficult hiring tests just created a different type of monoculture that failed them completely but even though it took way too many years to figure that out (utter failure of Google+ should have given them a hint) at least Google did realize in the end that they needed to hire cats...

You can solve the smell problem by promising cat treats if they lick their fur...

And it's those traits that tend to lend themselves towards good developers.  And then companies suddenly dislike said traits, but still want the benefits that come with them.
