Vista Quick Launch "Show Desktop Icon"

Recommended Posts

SHOW DESKTOP

i Deleted the "Show Desktop" Icon from the Quick Launch area on the toolbar and now i cant figure out where or how to get

it back.

Things ive tried...

Right click on the desktop, create shortcut, selected the desktop.

~This only opens a folder with desktop items inside of it.

What i want is the original feature that would minimize all windows that were open (including sidebar).

Asked HP tech support.

~I was told to type: regsvr32 /n /i:U shell32 in run and then restart.

I did that and the icon still doesnt apear in the Quick Launch Area.

Also the HP tech said to try...

~1. Click Start , click Run, type notepad, and then click OK.

2. In Notepad, type the following text on individual lines:

[shell]

Command=2

IconFile=explorer.exe,3

[Taskbar]

Command=ToggleDesktop

3. On the File menu, click Save As, and then save the file to your desktop

as Show Desktop.scf.

I did both and ether dont work. when i typed regsvr32 /n /i:U shell32 in run and then restarted

the icon didnt apear in the Quick Launch.

When i followed the steps with the notepad and placed it inside the Quick Launch, it just opened

the file as Notepad and showed me what i typed previously.

CAN ANYONE HELP OR AM I JUST ****ED?

....I understand when i press Win+Tab(switching between windows) and selecting

the desktop i can minimize all windows that way.

But i think i found a flaw in Vista.... :(

Help says these features in the Quick Launch are "Special" and says how to delete and add icons.

but not how to add the "Special" icons back. (Switch Between Windows & Show DeskTop)

Thanks -JoshuaSTylor

Simple:

Open notepad.

Enter exactly the following:

[shell]

Command=2

IconFile=shell32.dll,34

[Taskbar]

Command=ToggleDesktop

Save this file as "Show Desktop.scf" *Make sure you choose "All files" in the "Save as type" option*

And put it here: C:\Users\<< Username >>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

P.S: Max total signature size: 550x170 pixels.

For the sake of simplicity, the original poster can navigate to that folder using Windows Explorer by copying and pasting the following line into the address bar:

%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

    • Got it. Seem like a good improvement. Thanks. But, before we "Add the source to Trusted Sites," how would know if it is trusted or not? Could get messy for not first Knowing" it is clean. See what I mean?

    • I just started using Teams (and “New” Oiutlook) at work (instead of Slack) and both are truly abysmal pieces of software.
