Firefox using too much RAM

Somethings wrong with my Fx, its using too much RAM since I updated to version 0.9.3

Using all in all ~160MB even though I have just 5 neowin tabs open.

My settings are :-

P4 [email protected]; 512MB DDR333;

OS XPSP1a; Samurize + AVG6 + Flashget running in background.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040803 Firefox/0.9.3

What must be wrong with it? I didn't do anything fancy with it; just updated it to 0.9.3 3 days ago...

cute menus are just a waste of memory but even with that it shouldn't be using that much memory - my guess is that you didn't uninstall the previous version before installing 0.9.3 - always uninstall the previous before installing a newer build.

Odd... the highest Firefox for me uses is 64 MB...

I did a completely fresh install of firefox 9.3.3, no extensions, java enabled, I have the neowin main page open, the "Duuum III soft shadows" thread open, and this thread, and mine is using almost 90 megs of memory....makes it hard when i have 75 pr0n tabs open :laugh: :ninja:

It usually consumes a lot when a few tabs are open, but nowhere close to 150+mb.

I had this problem when I upgraded from .7 i think to .8. I haven't noticed anything on the newest version, though.

Minimize the browser window and maximize it again, then check the RAM useage, you'll notice it go way down. There's a memory leak that the developers know about (I believe it's also in the Mozilla suite). Until the bug is resolved, that's the best workaround for it.

Hopefully its will get fixed in some nightly.

You do have a lot of extensions installed. Still it shouldn't even be using close to 157MB of RAM. That's just insane. I'm using 67MB with 7 DevArt tabs open and 4 Neowin tabs.

Here's the highest I've ever gotten Firefox to use... (Yes, I abuse software...)

I used to have the mem usage skyrocket to 160+MB while installing an extension, but after a restart, it would go back to normal levels (20-30MB).

I found when something strange happen with Firefox, clean out the old profile and let Firefox rebuild it.... then reinstall themes/extensions will most likely solve the problem for me.

One annoying bug I found is whenever you start to mess around with themes/extensions, install and uninstall them several time will make Firefox unstable. So, I have to make sure that whenever I installed any themes/extension I will not uninstall it. If for some reason I have to, I will clean out the whole profile and let Firefox rebuild it. It works for me because I need only 4 extensions, but I know it's a pain for a people who have over 10+ extensions. :) Hope they will fix the Theme/Extension manager bug soon.

I have 27mb with 3 tabs of neowin forum open O_o but I think if you have like 512MB of Ram or more it shouldn?t worry you...

Also, for no reason whatsoever, havent touched a thing, themes now do not work, nor can i apply them in firefox.

Few too many bugs i found with it, so its gone again from my system.

Problem seems to occur when you use the same browser window for long periods of time without closing it.. it doesn't like to release memory so the usage just goes up and up until you close the browser and restart it.. they worked on a minor memory leak issue in last night's branch, hopefully more is done down the road.
