Should I install SP2 ?

I've heard that the SP2 slows down the PC - is it true ?

my PC:

Pentium 4 1.8 GHz

256 MB RDRAM PC800

GeForce 2 MX 400 64MB

ECS Elitegroup P4ITA Motherboard

40 GB Samsung HDD 7200 rpm

Creative Soundblaster PCI 128

Windows XP Professional

Will it slow down my system ?

go for it....I have almost the exact config as your computer except I have 1GB of RAM and a 9800 Pro....it won't slow down your system...I had no problme....been perfectly happy with SP2...

Reports of i slowing down a system are mainly due to third party software or drivers.

Yeah, the performance hits you'll take are tiny and completely unnoticable unless you're like "OMG I LOST 0.1 FPS OMG IM GONNA GET CREAMeD AT TEH NEXT LAN!!!1!!!!" and the security benefits aren't bad at all.

actually sp1 slowed my comp down. sp2 restored me back to the original speed. for me sp2 is faster as well as more secure.

2 hours?......what are you talking about?.....it took me around 20 minutes to install and reboot..... :laugh:

yeah, for me when i installed SP1 , things slowed down for me, but when i installed sp2, things went back to normal. also for me, its seems more faster more stable. and besides you get the added security features , go for it

i slipstreamed sp2 and did a clean installation. even better than sp1 for me.

Installed it :cool:

Now I have a little problem.It doesen't detect my AntiVirus (NOD32) :(

Why can't it detect NOD32 ? IS someone having this problem too ?

and I think there is a nod32 update that will take care of that problem

Turn off the Security Center its just annoying

Start -> Control Panel - > Administrative Tools -> Services -> Security Center

Right click and select Properties

Click Stop and make sure the drop down menu is set to Disabled.

This only stops the Security Center from checking things and doesn't affect your being able to setup Windows Firewall and/or Automatic Updates

Dark Ride, anytime...being on Neowin and able to install SP2 im sure YOU can decide what firewall and/or anti-virus software to use and how to monitor it. The Security Center is a good idea for those who dont know everything they are doing but for the likes of us, its really pointless and really annoying...
