Free Anti-virus

Hey guys,

I have a friend at school who is asking me to find her an Anti-virus for her iMac, she has Mac OSX on her iMac.

Any good FREE anti-virus software I should look for? Or maybe paid anti-virus without subscription?

She doesn't really need an anti-virus for OS X. There aren't any OS X viruses at the moment.

True, but Macs can still harbor and spread Windows viruses. It's another layer of protection for friends, family, and certainly in business.

Call me egocentric or selfish but I for one won't install anti-virus software on my Mac just because friends an family bought an OS that's vulnerable to those 100 million viruses out there. They may install protection software themselves. ;)

However, if you use your Macintosh as a file sharing hub in a Windows environment it might be a good idea to install some form of anti-virus software. (Y)

ClamXav is a free AV program for the Mac.

I have run this on 12 machines at work. It ran fine and did catch Windows viruses as they came in.

The reason why she needs this is because her dad is paranoid, he will not let her have internet on her Mac unless she has an anti-virus.

clamxav is pretty good from what i hear, although all of my friends just installed it and never used it so far. they just got it for the case..... ;)
