Light Vertical Wavy Floating Lines with Boot Camp iMac

Recommended Posts

I have a 20'' Aluminum iMac with a 2.0GHz Core 2 and an HD2400XT.

There are light vertical wavy floating lines visible on the screen when running Windows XP. They are more clearly seen when you look the screen at an angle, from down below you look upwards to the screen. The floating lines can be precisely seen on grey backgrounds. These lines are not noticable much, but when you closely look with grey backgrounds, they are visible.

The problem is very strange because I've tried updating the drivers to my HD2400XT, and no luck at all.

I'm not able to determine wether the problem is hardware of software related, due to the problem not existing in Mac OS X.

Help me please!

By the way, this has happened with XP, Vista x86, and Vista x64.

i remember experimenting something like that long time ago, it was in a brand new PC actually, with XP, i reformatted several time and tried updating drivers which by coincidence it was an ATI card also, then i installed some overclocking utility and changed some values and fixed it. the point is, it might be drivers.

once i uninstalled that app, the problem came back and i ended up switching to nVidia.

I'm convinced it's a driver problem.

After trying to install unofficial Catalyst drivers, the problem went away, but came back soon after a reboot.

Well I give up, maybe it's a problem with my iMac, but it works fine for OS X. I guess I just won't use Windows.

Thanks for the help though guys, appreciate it.

Hi,

I have the exact same problem with my new iMac I got a 2 months ago, (20" - 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB Memory, 320GB HDD, SuperDrive, ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO 256MB).

I've tried removing drivers, reinstalling them and then re-installing Vista and then XP, however the same problem still appers.

I notice it most with sites that have black backgrounds.

Any other ideas would greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris.

Happens to me, too.

I hope it's a driver problem and not Apple's doing... (Considering they decided to show a BSOD for PC icons and they intentionally don't anti-alias Windows text on the Boot Camp screen.)

Just to bring this topic back up: Just started from scratch with a clean install of the final Windows 7 version and the latest BootCamp divers but those line are still present.

But there's got to be a way to fix this, because the screen CAN by stable and without lines right after installing a new driver when the screen goes black and is reset. Maybe it is just some strange faulty setting? A refreash issue with the monitor perhaps?
