Problem Sharing Files on Home Network in Vista x32-x64

Recommended Posts

Have 1 wired desktop (vista x64) & 1 wireless laptop (Vista x32) on home network using WRT54GL router.

Both access internet just fine, but can't get them to share files, even though it's turned on in both machines.

BOTH computer names show up on BOTH machines in Explorer "Network" folder.

When try to access other machine's Public folder, always get error message,

"WINDOWS CANNOT ACCESS \\<name of other computer>

I THINK may know what some of the problem(s) may be - not sure easiest way to fix it.

When click Network Folder in Explorer:

1) Laptop show ALL computers & router on same "Network Location", BUT the 2 computers under different Workgroup names.

2) Desktop show ALL computers on same Network Location name (but a DIFFERENT Network Location name than laptop shows) . It shows same respective Workgroup names for each as laptop shows.

Not sure easiest way to FIX this, or if need to start from scratch.

Thanks.
