About Batman: Arkham City

Game Overview

Info credit

Since the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum, warden Quincy Sharp has taken credit for Batman’s successful quelling of Joker’s uprising and used that momentum to win Gotham City’s mayoral election. The first of his broad-sweeping plans is to proclaim Arkham Asylum and Blackgate Prison unfit to house criminals. Sharp buys up a large swath of Gotham’s slums and walls it off, stocking the perimeter with highly trained armed mercenaries from an outfit named Tyger. All prisoners are transported to this new facility dubbed “Arkham City” approximately a year after the events at the asylum. They are given only one rule under threat of death: do not try to escape. No other policing takes place inside, leaving a mix of two-bit criminals and super villains to eke out an existence in this lawless, ruthless ecosystem.

Sharp brings in a mysterious psychiatrist named Hugo Strange to head the new Arkham. Hidden from the eyes of the public, Strange is rumored to be up to terrible things, but nothing can be proven. Anyone who investigates his past or Arkham itself seems to disappear, most likely within the walls of the prison city.

I'm sure I'll love the game and the story, the gameplay looks actually less fluid than Arkham Asylum. I'm sure it's "early build" syndrome, tho.

I kinda noticed that too in the demo today. I hope it is "early build syndrome". It makes sense though since the game is still four months off.

twenty five hours is definitely good, although LA Noire is over 30 and those aren't always the most exciting of times...however, i will always take a longer campaign over a shorter one.

Well sure, some of that is finding hte ridler statues and stuff like that, but on the flip side at least you'll get to them quick once they're on your map compared to something like LA Noire that hides them regardless.

Getting all the statues and clues in the first game was actually pretty fun for me, which is a first I'd say.

i agree that Arkham Asylum made for a better experience in terms of variety than LA Noire, but not by a long-shot. i don't know.

anyway, i'm sure they'll put it on Steam sale closer to the launch of Arkham City. expect at least 50% off the retail price.

IGN also demoed Arkham City at E3 too. In this gameplay, you'll see just how difficult it's going to be to get Riddler Trophies. Collecting all of 'em is going to be really tough. Definitely a load of fun, though! :D

They just made it worth finding the trophies now that you have to save people in the end. Plus, zomg, double-line-launcher!

Trophies are always fun to try and find. :D

I've updated the first post with IGN Rewind Theaters for each trailer. I hope you'll find them just as interesting as I have!

I've also added a Gameplay section with footage from the demo at E3. I'll continue to add to that section as gameplay footage becomes available.

Let me know what you think!

Pre-order at Best Buy and get a downloadable Robin character for playing on two challenge maps.

I heard about this. It's cool that they're implementing him as a playable character in Arkham City, but I hope they implement him into the main storyline of the game as well. This can open up a lot of opportunities for future Batman games. Don't you think?

The Riddler Trailer

I put this trailer in the original post, as well. As soon as there is an IGN Rewind Theater for it, I'll also get that posted!

In other news...

-Rocksteady has just recently stated that many more character reveals are on the way!

-Rocksteady has released the official boxart for Arkham City! See: PS3 Box art|XBOX 360 Box art

-Check out the FAQ for Robin!

I haven't been keeping you guys updated on Arkham City and for that, I apologize. Since there hasn't been TOO much news Arkham City, I'll try to post updates here once or twice a week.

    • >defenders of AI-generated artworks often claim that AI is just a tool It is not. It is the inhuman artist replacement. The human writing the prompt is the employer/manager requesting the work product of the artist -- a supervisory/descriptive job that doesn't carry with it any rights to the copyright of that work product at all. And since AI is not human itself, it can't gain copyright for anything it is asked to regurgitate or hallucinate, so it can't transfer that copyright to the employer/manager/human who asked for the output. This was all legally reaffirmed last year. So, no, while there are AI tools, AI slopware generation is NOT a "tool" in the legal definition of that word.
    • As long as i get to play GTA 6 before it ends 😂😂
    • Google is opening the world's first AI museum in Los Angeles by Ivan Jenic Image via: Google Ever since AI image generators went mainstream, the debate over whether AI-generated art is real art hasn't let up. Those who don’t consider AI to be art say that if a machine does the creating and anyone can prompt it, there’s no skill involved, and therefore no art is produced. The counter-argument is equally persistent, as defenders of AI-generated artworks often claim that AI is just a tool, and that every major technological breakthrough, like the camera or the computer, was met with the same skepticism before eventually being accepted as a legitimate creative medium. Google’s position in this debate is clear. Which is no surprise, as the company is investing billions in AI infrastructure. And now, in efforts to encourage people to use its AI even more, Google is opening Dataland on June 20, which it's calling the world's first AI arts museum. Located inside The Grand LA, a Frank Gehry-designed building in Los Angeles, the museum spans 25,000 square feet. The museum is built around a collaboration with media artist Refik Anadol, who has worked with Google since 2016. The inaugural exhibition is called Machine Dreams: Rainforest, and is powered by an AI model trained on “an extensive dataset of the natural world.” It generates 1.2 billion pixels of visuals in real time and reacts to visitors dynamically. The space also generates soundscapes, real-time emotion sensing, and algorithmically produced scents. Image via: Refik Anadol Studio / Google Google says that the museum is powered by its Gemini models, which run on Google Cloud. So, everything is generated inside one of Google’s AI data centers and is streamed to the museum. Alongside the museum opening, Google Arts & Culture is funding an AI Artist Residency, giving four artists $25,000 grants each, along with mentorship from Refik Anadol Studio and access to Google's machine learning tools. Their work will be shown at Dataland and on the Google Arts & Culture website later this year. Google’s AI museum will undoubtedly initiate a fired-up debate on social media, and we can’t wait to see the first reactions. Via: Smithsonian Magazine
    • Calling GTA 6 overhyped crap doesn’t make you edgy, it just makes you sound like someone who hasn’t enjoyed anything since the PS2 era.
    • I’m not arguing whether Rockstar likes money. Obviously, they do, they’re a business. I’m saying this isn’t new. They’ve always launched console first. This is just how Rockstar operates.
