Mail button on keyboard starts up MS Outlook

Recommended Posts

I used to have my Mail button on my keyboard start up MS Outlook Express, but now that I've moved to MS Outlook, I'd like my Mail button to start up Outlook instead of Outlook Express.

How can I achieve this?

I've tried going to "Set Program Access and Defaults", but Outlook isn't listed there - only Outlook Express.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance! :D

Maybe if you mentioned what keyboard you have? Just a thought...

in set program access and defaults, choose outlook express and leave everything else to "use my current..." OR open outlook express. it should say "outlook express is not currently your default email application. would you like to make it your default email application?" or something like that. click yes.

It's a Microsoft Internet keyboard.

Open IE,

Tools menu

Internet options

Programs tab.

Is Outlook available in the drop down menu for 'email'? If so, select it and press apply and ok.

Does this resolve it?

I'm pretty sure he's asking how he can assign the physical button on his keyboard to Outlook not OE. In which case the software for the keyboard should handle it. Look on MS's site.

There should also be an option in Outlook -> Tools -> Options to "Set as default mail client" (which changes that setting in "Internet Properties" for you.)

Or at least I think there is. I'm not positive, since I don't have Outlook installed to check.

Setting the default mail client in the way i mentioned might also set it so that if he pressed the button on keyboard, it will launch the default mail client of choice, eg Outlook.

If doesnt work, im sure Outlook has an option to set as default mail client as semifamous mentioned. Again in doing this and pressing the button, might launch Outllook.

But worst case, download the drivers from MS as mentioned.

I'm pretty sure that the button invokes the default mail-client. Thus I am pretty sure that Davey is right...
