NAV 2004 Problem

Question

I have recently purchased NAV 2004 and the first thing I noticed was when an outbound email is sent either from Outlook Express or Outlook ,the progress indicator which should appear in the bottom right hand corner.

What I have noticed, and what is subsequently being reported on a couple of newsgroups,is that the progress indicator displays but behind either of the email clients.

Not a big deal I guess but this never occurred in NAV 2003.It is more annoying than anything else.

Has anyone here on Neowin who uses NAV 2004 noticed this at all? Is this a possible Windows setting or something is not quite right with NAV 2004?

I am running Windows XP Professional.

What do you mean by "behind either of the email clients"? Do you mean that the progress indicator is not "on top", like it used to be in NAV 2003? If that's what you mean, then I dont even consider it annoying - on the contrary, I think it's better. After all, you know what the email was sent after the email icon in the system tray is gone.

Yeah, I prefer the same thing too.. To have the "Always on top" progress indicator is very annoying especially when you are typing the next e-mail, and all of sudden, that annoying indicator pops out.. Then we have to wait until it disappears, or click on the e-mail window again to resume your work...

I'm gonna try NAV2004 tonight when I get home, I'll let you know if it stops IE from working but I HIGHLY doubt it.

No, I have NAV2004 installed, IE works fine, except it doesn't protect you against Spy/Adwares a WHOLE lot, see the topic I just created below. I am surfing sites tonights, then suddenly my Harddrive went busy and pop up tells me Ezula and n-CASE are installed on my computer!!! :|

Well, I do have the FREE regular version to Ad-aware, not the Pro version, which protects you in Real-time. I don't know if I want to spend the money. Spyware and adwares are not as lethal as Viruses. You know, I wouldn't even get Antivirus unless it's under $10 The only reason I have NAV is because I get Norton Systemworks with utilities and cleansweep together. I feel it's a good deal that way.. However, Symantec is starting to disappoint me, with both little improvements in the last couple years :(

Norton Utilities and Cleansweep has not only not improven much, it has took out a lot of features, I liked from the old versions, but that's another topic.

Though spywares or Adwares forces software installation on our computers, is so p***ing me off. Permission should have been asked. If not, I have no respect for this kind of company either, I think it should go to hell (bankrupt, shutdown) ASAP!

yeah, i have to agree

they seem to be running out of ideas, and are trying to sell basically the same code year after year, beginning with nav 2002

they dont even support msn messenger 5, not to meantion 6.x - the only support they have for is windows/msn 4.x, which in the most part is *almost* obsolete, according to M$ themselves

still, nav is the way to go!!

That is what I meant - not on top, sorry.

I have switched it off until the folks at Symantec fix this.

NAV 2004 is so crap it will not allow me to launch Macromedia Dreamweaver MX it freezes my Internet Explorer windows...it's load of crap

It's a known side effect of the way Macromedia codes. Their products are almost entirely comprised of script files which NAV will have to scan every time you run Dreamweaver. It also severely slows down IE because of the script scanning. Macromedia recommend that you add their program directory to your list of exclusions in NAV (and any other AV software you may use). Also, I would recommend disabling script protection unless you're extremely paranoid in which case you wouldn't be running IE as your browser anyways...
