I switched from Windows 2000 to XP the day it became available. Then I switched to Mac OS X a couple years later. Apple screwed me over too many times so I have been in the process of eliminating all of my Macs and replacing them with Windows 7 systems.

Who remembers Whistler and the checkered theme that never made it into XP?

Who doesn't? I recall the long wait for Binary's Watercolor VS, later followed by Watercolor Lite and much later enhanced by Capric0rn as Watercolor Emico. Good times.

I actually installed it in December 2001 but my friend had the devil's own copy in September and I was shocked back then how he got it before the official launch. The OS doesn't have any weakness per-se except maybe running as admin which is bad. But you can use SuRun to run as standard user and SuRun behaves exactly like UAC.

I was an early adopter of XP :shiftyninja: And I found it difficult to go to Vista, even though it looked nicer, it had so many problems prior to SP1!

Looking at the current poll result Neowin is full of early adopters of XP. Surprise, surprise...

As to Vista: I used it for about 10 months after RTM (thanks to getting a free copy for beta testing it), all the time hoping updates would improve its performance - mind you, my PC at the time was a lowly Sempron 3000+ with 1 GB RAM and a Geforce 6200. Things didn't improve, I got fed up with it and switched back to XP for a couple of months before buying a Mac in Jan. 2008.

I purchased a machine from Time Computers in Croydon, Surrey (now the London borough of Croydon) for a bag of sand (grand) in July (early) 2001.

Came with a TFT 15 inch monitor also.

I had XP before quite a few.

It was the freshest and best change in operating systems.

I have Windows XP as a virtual PC with Windows 7 x64 pro.

Windows 95 was a great change, XP was the dogs Charlie Ollox.

I switched from Windows 98 to XP in 2003....eventually got sick and tired of all the headaches and time wasting that came along with using Windows and made the switch to OS X and have never looked back, and probably never will unless MS can make miracles happen

I had a crappy Windows 98 machine until early 2003 until my dad bought us a Gateway XP machine. As soon as I was old enough to get a job, I starting building my own machines and I've kept everything "up to date" ever since '06. Right now I'm on Windows 7 and Mac OS X.

    • It won't perform hugely better than the 3080 unless you're VRAM limited in games. Have you tried putting new thermal pads on them 3080 and giving it a good clean to see if you can regain your temps and overclock?
    • Windows 95 offered the ability to add and edit the right click menus, on a per file type basis. This feature seems to be missing in the new file explorer. Are they bringing it back as a "new" feature?
    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
