Have you ever played WoW, or any other Blizz Game for that matter? There is no form of content delivery system aside from their launcher (which downloads game updates). There is no distribution client, or game manager. You download, you install, you play. No extra third party ****.

Fact is that time and again they have proven quite the opposite. 4 hour server queues is not handling it. Crashed login servers is not handling it.

People are ignorant to what can arrise, and like to think that if something is already working for them in one way, it will always work for them in other ways dealing with another product...

Time and time agian, every company has shown that launches never go as expected. Even Valve constantly has issues with releases of the Tripple A titles.

Just because Blizzard has shown that it can handle millions of users on their WoW servers, doesn't mean a single thing about their diablo 3 servers. It is different.

I played in US server (Sargeras) for 2 WoW expansion launches (TBC and Wrath). TBC did have hiccups and some crashes, but nonetheless it wasn't THAT bad. Wrath had even less issues.

I did not however, play on Cataclysm nor SC2 launch.

Though consider, WoW != Diablo3. There are not that many factors which will produce as much delay for the game. There might be a Queue...WHICH IS EXPECTED.

Just think of this, WoW can support hundred players in the same screen (with lag). Diablo3 has max 4 players + monsters in the same screen.

But how many games are going to be up? That is a lot of data. Wow is static, and everything is shared. Diablo 3 is not static, and all games can be totally different as far as map and what is happening.

players on screen is irrelevant, the servers don't care about the amount of players on screen, that's a worry for the client. the server has to handle EVERY person in it's area of responsibility anyway. whether they see each other or not, it doesn't care.

and guess what, whether you play with 3 friends or alone in Diablo 3, EVERYTHING you do in the game is done on the server, EVERY mob is controlled by the server, there is NO offline play. it's exactly like playing WoW with at least as much server traffic and server resources required.

Also as for Cata, 4 hours queues and serves regularly down, not a good launch, and it was the same story with all their expansions, the only people who got to play where the very first ones to logon after the servers came up.

Also queues are acceptable ? sorry no, if I buy a game, a single player game which I intend to enjoy as a single player game frst before I ruin it with idiots online, I intend to play it right away without waiting because everythign I do in my single player game has to be handled somewhere else for some idiotic reason with no sensible or satisfactory explanation. queues for a game like this is absolutely not acceptable, I don't find them acceptable for MMORPG's either, but more so than in a game like Diablo 3 where's it would be absolutely inexcusable.

Servers don't see characters. Servers see numbers, character/userID's. That's really all it cares about. The database is what's getting the use (querying itemIDs (items), user names, guilds, locations, etc). The server is just updating the database what the client sends, and sending that data back to the clients.

The stress is on the client to render everything. The server stress comes in with the constant updating of health, mana, cool-downs, position, etc. The back end things. The login stress comes when 500,000 people try and connect to a socket at once. That's essentially a DDOS attack in one swift hit.

Same here. I don't intend to play 100% solo, I expect to be in groups most of the time, so I'll need internet connection regardless.

There's is absolutely no reason for them to not have offline characters and offline mode.

No reasons ... apart from the reasons they've stated, including (but not limited to) the inability to provide an auction house for offline characters, that it requires clients to be able to run the game end-to-end (which exposes hacking risks even on the online client, as it provides more info to those looking to cheat), to reduce user confusion and annoyance (about creating an offline player and not being able to take it online).

No, no it's not. There is 0 reason to cheat. Cheating/using Exploits is also against the TOS. I feel that the banning of people cheating/hacking single player or not still creates a risk with the group games. As it is all online single player is still online and will have the exact same flaws, so cheating "single player" would be the exact same as cheating "multi-player". It needs to be caught, dealt with, fixed, and stopped.

To re-iterate what was said: "There's a difference between not having reasons, and you feeling they don't have valid reasons." I 100% support the always online. I don't want cheaters, or hackers coming in an ruining my game. I don't want to run that risk just because I want to play online. I am not buying the game for the solo play, in my opinion being able to run through it solo is a bonus, not what the focus should have been on (favoring those who don't want to play online, and those who do getting shafted).
