I'm doing 1025.38 DPS now at level 38 with 2216 armour (excluding buffs). You're right, +damage items are really good. The next thing you want for really high damage output is armour items that boost your main attribute (e.g dexterity for monks and demon hunters, strength for barbarians, etc). It's the reason why my damage is so high. I use a ruby gem for two 1-handed weapons and emerald gems (which boost dexterity) for just about everything else. My armour looks really ugly right now but it's necessary because nightmare mode gets progressively harder.

I went with two 1handers and my dps went up to 959.53. When I go sword and board it's 700~. Basically two shooting everything in nightmare and when it comes to rares/champs with the build i'm using I'm more spiky with dual 1handers, but kill a bit faster. Thinking Imma go back to sword and board though. I prefer it, and my shield has more desirable stats than my second 1hander. I'm using normal as a test run of places to farm/build/etc. for hardcore.

I'll be self-centered for a second here: I could give 2 craps about AH, although I understand why Blizzard is so adamant about doing it their way. But I want PvP dammit! Playing last night brought me back to my D2 memories. Has there been any updates other than the one from March stating it will come in a patch later?

I found a very nice blade for my level (42 dps and a socket), and noticed that dual wielding it and my old shiv actually lowers my dps when compared to just using the new blade (this is assuming the dps calculation is correct). So unless you have two weapons that do very similar dmg, you probably should give a shield a try and see how it affects your dps.

I prefer using two weapons over one weapon plus a shield. I find that I don't need a lot of armour because of my 31.0% dodge chance (41.4% with mantra of evasion). And in case I need some extra armour, I use the hard target rune for mantra of evasion which increases it by 20%. I only do 1.7K damage now with 6.2K HP. I'm not too worried about my health. I do, however, feel that I'm not doing enough damage for my level. My friend has a level 43 Wizard that does 1.8K damage. What level is your Barbarian at? I'm guessing it's below 40.

Here's a question for all the pros out there: What can I do to drastically increase my damage (as a Monk)?

I find buyout prices are very low in general, meaning I have to put very low buyouts on the yellows I put there as well.

And in general most stuff seem to have buyouts. I suppose that changes more when you hit max level and people can make more without a buyout though, as without a buyout before that people just won't by puny it, after all by the time the auction is done you've out leveled it.

Personally, I find the whole AH concept cheapening the game and feels a bit like cheating though. You can just buy the best yellows all the time there if you want, especially at the current prices. It takes away from the game and from actually getting or making your own gear, heck crafting is pretty useless anyway.

I mean I do it myself, but everytime I do it feels like I'm entering the money cheat in Sim City or something.

Is anyone else finding the AH completely useless?

Most people put up stuff with no buyout and at least 2 days till auction end. Or if they do have a buyout price, it's something incredibly retarded.

That was what I thought on the first day, but by Day 3 I was making 50,000 gold just running through a couple areas so the prices aren't that bad.

I'm 39 using two weapons level 38 weapons with same rubies you got (triangle ones). I'm doing plenty of damage, only way I can see myself doing more is wearing more pure DPS gear instead of dps/magic find stuff/exp stuff.

Just beat Act 1 on Hell difficulty. Last boss af the Act is tough...

The Skeleton King is tough *period* - monks and barbs simply find it *easier* than wizards.

And in any case, you have to dodge and weave (basically take him on like a boxer fighting way out weight class).

If you have the Templar as a follower (highly recommended!) he can harass/aggro the SK while you take care of the mobs and heal up.

Regardless, you don't want to get into blow-trading with him until he's down to no more than one-third power (barbs) - better yet, one-quarter. (Even then, it's still a hard and tough - though quite fun - slog. I was thinking of some quippage to throw at him during that last chop-chop-chop as I'm turning Leoric into bony toothpicks:

"Hey, Leoric! I see you're lacking iron in your diet - here, try some of mine!"

"Oh, Leo - since you're a King, I'm here to *crown* you!"

"By the way, Leo - your son says Hi."

I find the AH is pretty good for dumping stuff. I guess it's sort of like offering a way to "speed through" the game, like a cheat, but sanctioned.

And crafting is the best. I think most of my gear is crafted by my blacksmith dude, you just gotta level him enough :)

    • I know I won't ever be using it to make my game. I'd rather pay humans.
    • Nah. For every indie dev that needs to create code for "stuff" or textures, it's a godsend enabler to possibly tackle a project that you may not otherwise. The end result and testing will tell the truth if everything works or doesn't, or a game is just mediocre slop, but now these tools are now there and it's the developer's duty to judge the outcome, and even more so for pro studios. And you gotta remember that they will be at an early stage.
    • whoosh my comment went over your head. Enjoy your notchless 3:2 OLED device
    • As a game dev, today was really depressing. They announced that Blueprints will be deprecated in UE6 to be fully replaced by their sh**ty Python-like Verse language... They also announced that 5.8 will be the last version of UE5 until UE6 comes out in MID 2029!!!! They have completely lost the plot.
