Damn, my monk seems underpowered compared to what I'm seeing lol.

Level 42 I believe, and I'm around 796 DPS. Firey, A friend, and I went on a pretty long run last night. We made it from act 1 Nightmare to Act 3. We only wiped a hand full of times really, and they were only to elite mobs that basically instakilled us. It was a ton of fun though.

The wizard does seem very strong. Firey and I are monks, so basically during our run through, it really seemed like him and me were the shields/aggro catchers, while my wizard friend was the damager. He plays a odd build though, of crystal skin, explosion, and using the magic sword swipes. Works really well though.

Firey, Tonight, we planning on getting through Act 3. You up for it :)

Lurking on the D3 forums, seems there's a number of people who say their accounts have been hacked. They lost their gold and items in their stash. but their equipment was still there.

Anyone else run into this?

Yup my account was hacked as well. This is pretty disappointing. They only guarantee 1 restore and beyond that they may not even bother to help you. Also, if you do restore, your access to RMAH becomes restricted so victims of hacking get penalised while the hackers don't? I'm not even going to bother to play anymore until they do something about it.

Yes, your monk does seem underpowered, mine is level 36 and does around 700 DPS, and weapons are the only thing I've bought from the AH, another 7 levels and I should be able to get even better weapons pushing it much higher (in comparison, at level 32 I only did 500 damage, assuming a similar increase in my next 6 levels on my monk, I should be at 900 or more DPS....not a huge difference from yours, but if I bought armor and stuff too from the AH, it would be much higher.

As far as wizard being strong, it starts off weak IMHO, it kills things quick but until you get disintegration ray you don't kill things quickly enough to make it easy, you have to constantly kite and what not (although this is purely playing alone, not with other players). Later on though I've heard wizard gets really powerful, you have skills that can control enemies really well while having really high damage as well. You won't take hits the best, but if you play it right you won't take hits often at all.

LOL, well poop. Tonight I might try to find some better harder hitting weapons.

LOL, well poop. Tonight I might try to find some better harder hitting weapons.

Look for ones with dex, 1 dex = 1% more damage.....one of my monks weapons has 51.8 DPS, and gives 70 dex (70% increased damage), the other one gives 96 dex (166% total damage increase from only my weapons).

If I compare those weapons to an equal level weapon (similar DPS) without dex, I lose around 80 damage for each weapon (the one with higher dex has lower base DPS than the 70 dex weapon).

Also put rubies in the weapon if it has a socket, it adds flat damage which seems small but easily adds 20-30 more DPS (and that's only going up to normal quality gems).

I've only run into a couple of technical issues so far, and they haven't prevented me from playing like some people. (Fingers crossed!)

I played a starter edition through the Skeleton King bit. After completing that the game told me I had to buy it in order to keep playing. I exited it out of my session. I bought a physical copy of the game that day (because free notepad! lol) and entered my key to activate. When I logged back into the game, my character was at the same level I originally quit at, however all my level progress was lost and I had to start over. But I had all my equipment and even the templar follower. As I re-played the levels up to the Skeleton King bit, the templar was with me. I decided to leave him back in Tristram when I played through the part where I picked him up during the story just in case something horrendous would happen. Fortunately, I made it through without any game crashing. -- So an FYI, I guess. You may need to replay bits you've already played if you upgrade from a starter edition.

The other issue is just general lag. I'll be cruising through a dungeon, click to attack or pick up items or run over gold, and nothing will happen. I can move my character, but the attacks or pickups won't occur until 5 seconds later. Fortunately, I have never encountered a critical situation where I might be in danger of dying because of the lag, but it does have me a little worried. Sometimes, it helps if I exit the game, and relaunch it. But not always. :s

subj: hardcore mode: solo vs party

Guys, please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the mobs get harder as more people join the party. The difficulty is dynamic and it scales with the number of players.

My question is: Does it happen instantaneously both ways? Or does it happen only before/after a fight?

You see, I'm kinda skeptical of the party play when it comes to the hardcore mode because it entails a greater risk I think. What if someone drops on a boss fight? Is the difficulty (boss's HP) decreased right away?

Or am I completely wrong?

For those being hacked, I am not going to point fingers however, what sort of activities have you been participating in that would allow the account details to be breached. Also $6.50 gets you an authenticator or you can sign up for free for an app on your phone or a texting authenticator as well that will help prevent future breaches in security.

Playing barb now, bought a 1-handed weapon and shield from the AH, running with frenzy as my main attack, didn't even have to use a single potion fighting the butcher.....he just didn't hit me hard enough to hurt me.....large groups take more work to take care of than cleave spam I was using, until I get some fury built up I can't take on large groups very easily.

So far it's working really well though, with large groups I get revenge procced really often, which makes it super easy to heal through it, and does pretty crazy aoe damage as well....plus seismic slam is an awesome fury spender, haven't got the damage increase yet but it has great range.

The butcher was so easy though (only in normal right now, but the first time I fought him in normal my friend and I got killed), that I decided to use weapon throw to finish him off for the Death from Afar barb achievement.

Looking at the forums, it doesn't look like a user problem but a server side issue. It looks like either a bad replication bug between servers or security has been compromised. The lack of any official word and the threads being actively removed on the subject also make it look more of an issue with Blizzard than the users. It seems some of these users affected also used one of these authenticator methods.

Well, I was a little wrong about my damage. During lunch, Just hit lvl 45, and my damage is at 989.39 right now. Still a little low, and my main handed weapon is a fist wep that does about 120 with stats.

On the accounts being hacked... Hard to tell what issue it is. A few people who were hacked have admited to being on internet cafes, which could easily be a virus or some type of key logger on them. The others reporting hacks are just reporting, and we have no hard real proof that it has happened. But can't say I'm still not worried. I hope this isn't a server side issue.

Yup..this game is definitely going to hold my attention for awhile. I'm loving how they did the multiplayer! Very casual, you can just jump in and play. Excellent.

Why is it that some of my friends I can join their games but other friends I have to ask them to invite me?

There is a toggle in the options to allow friends to join without asking or not. Some people don't like that feature and just disable it. I know I have it disabled. It's on by default.

Nah, anyone who has played WoW knows that this is pretty common. People don't have adequate security and so they get their accounts compromised. There are already D3 phishing scams out there. It's not a Blizzard issue and it's definitely not an authenticator issue. If you check out the WoW CS forums you can go back as far as the threads go and see people saying their security is top notch and such but in the end it's always that they clicked something they shouldn't have. To be fair to them though it's easy to click stuff that you shouldn't. I got a pretty convincing email the other day and if I wasn't as cautious as I am I probably would have clicked the link in it, which after closer inspection turned out to not be legit.

Also they will restore your account more than once, the reason they tell you that they'll only do it once or a limited time or things like that is because they want you to care - If they tell people that they'll always fix it people won't care about their security as much and Blizzard will have to devote more resources to helping people not click things they shouldn't. I'm really not surprised people are getting their accounts compromised. Even all these years later in WoW people are blaming Blizzard instead of downloading the mobile authenticator or paying $6.50 for a physical one or whatever. Knowing how authenticators work I have issues believing people who claim to have their accounts compromised while using one. It's ... verrrrrrrrrrrrry unlikely.

Yea man, what time you thinking?

Probably wont be until 930ish central time. Boxor doesn't get out of his classes until then. I might be playing eariler than that, around 6pm central, as that's when I get off of work.

During lunch, Box and I went ahead and killed the last person we left off on last night, but we can redo it agian for ya if you haven't done it. Right now, it is 1:50pm for me.

Also. There is a tip for those of us who were having to run it at lower than wanted settings....

(Taken from a Reddit Post )

for windows users:

  • go into your documents>diablo3>d3prefs
  • this should open up a text file, find the line that says
  • DisableTrilinearFiltering "0"
  • change the 0 in that line to 1. this will disable trilinearfiltering.

for mac users:

  • Click on the background of your desktop to make sure you in the "Finder Menu"
  • Hold Down the Option Key and hit GO, then click Library (should show up under home)
  • Open the Application Support Folder
  • Open the Blizzard Folder
  • Open The Diablo III Folder
  • You will see a file called D3Prefs.txt open that with your text editor
  • You will see a line that says DisableTrilinearFiltering "0" change this to DisableTrilinearFiltering "1"
  • save file!

This actually works. Before doing this, I was running at 1920x1080 and had everything on Low or Off except for Textures, which I had at High. I was getting normally 60fps, but it would drop constantly in areas do 20 or less.

Now with this tip, I have everything on High. I get a constant 60fps, with little drops into the upper 40's. So I recommend every one try this that has some stuttering issues.

I'm in India right now for work. That's exactly what I did before leaving to the other side of the world. Just in case I get hacked, got the app on my galaxy s2

Thanks for posting this. Playing on a 13" MBP hopefully this will give me a faint boost. I'm fine with how its playing now, everything on low, but any gain would be nice!

Anyone want to play let me know. I'm still early in the game on Act 1 but nonetheless.

What level are you? I can probably use my Wizard (level 12) to play alongside.

I'm lvl 5 barb right now. Was a monk but my friend is playing monk as well, wanted to try something different. I'm going to try and lvl some more today and tonight (I'm on Pacific Coast time).

Battletag: iWaLK#1210

Also, just tied the mobile authenticator on iPhone to my account. Very nice, thanks for the suggestion in the thread.
