I believe Mango just bricked my HD7 (T-Mobile).

Hi -

Few things worth noting.

  • I have only updated my phone when zune prompted me
  • Never had a dev build on this phone
  • Never had a custom rom
  • Never forced an update via disconnecting

So yesterday Zune prompts me that the Mango update is available. I install it - which takes over an hour - and everything is wonderful. I use the phone and all of its wonderful features all night long. This morning I get a call and when I was done with that I put the phone down and left the room. I came back 2 mins later and the phone appeared to have rebooted and was now stuck on the HTC screen. I have pulled the battery and again re-booted only to have the same thing happen again. It never gets past the white screen with the green HTC text. Needless to say I am kind of upset.

Has anyone else run into this issues?

Does anyone have any advice?

Best Regards,

Chad

Something similar happened with my Omnia 7 last night - try to get it into the bootloader and plug it back into Zune and it'll restore your backup. From there you can try the update again, second time worked a charm.

(To get into bootloader, pull out the battery, press and hold the decrease volume button, put the battery back in and press and hold power as well).

Yeah, I got it to start but zune software doesn't see it so it won't do anything, it just sits there. I'll send it into LG tomorrow and they'll just flash it right to mango probably, i'll just have to wait however long till I get it back.

I certainly hope this isn't the start of an epidemic. I don't care for Windows Phone devices myself, but it's going to destroy the OS if this causes problems.

Nah, it's not. Normally the update doesn't work and it just rolls back, but in my case, I dunno why, the restart step in the failed mango update froze, and I couldn't restart it manually iehter so it's now borked. Keep in mind it was the 3rd time I was trying the mango update, the first two times it just stopped at 7403 which was fine really.

No biggy, I mean either way you'll have to wait for MS/LG to fix this minor problem and upgrade from 7403 to Mango 7720 or you are like me and send it in and they'll just flash it up to mango and send it back. Either way, you're going to be waiting.

Problem solved.

I just got done chatting with T-Mobile and they came to the conclusion that I had to do a hard reset. Meaning my data would be lost but all updates would stay. This is a copy of the transcript I had with the rep...

_Nicholas P: If necessary, unplug the phone from the charger.

Turn off the phone.

Press and hold the Volume Up and Volume Down keys.

While still pressing the Volume keys, press and hold the Power/Lock key.

When the device displays 'This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press VolDown to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.' release the Power/Lock and Volume keys.

Press the Volume Down key to reset the phone.

Press the Volume Down key again to restart the phone.

This process took all of 2 mins and everything appears to be working now. Also, I double checked if Zune recognized the phone it did with no issues. I will update with more information if anything else goes wrong.

Furthermore I asked if they had any explination. They stated it most likely was a third-party ap that disagreed with Manago and that they are looking into it.

Take care,

Chad

    • I'm still rocking iOS 25.x on my primary phone cuz iOS 26 still has usability quirks (mostly aesthetic and thus its UX) which I don't wanna deal with -- and I've been piloting them with all of these updates on my backup phone, so I'm well aware of its "improvements" since iOS 26 was first released (compared to version 26.5.x).
