Constructive criticism and advise on promoting/advertising wanted

Question

Hi everyone!

I've finally got round to redesigning our entire printed/embroidered t-shirt website and would like some opinions on what you think of layout and general usage of the site.

Also, what would be the best way in promoting a site like this on a tight budget. We've used Google Adwords and it gets some work in, but you can soon rack up a huge bill with not much returns. As we're based solely online, it's the case of if you aren't on the first page of search engine rankings, you don't exist to anyone that doesn't already know you!

Anyway the site is: http://www.top-togs.co.uk - all comments, positive and negative welcome!

Cheers,

Stu

To be fair it looks very "Web 1.0/1990's".

The blue and yellow aint easy on the eyes and it's just bland.

Of course bland/simple can work if it's good executed, but sadly it's not done here.

The layout otherwise looks good and it's easy to navigate on the page which imho is a big plus.

The original site was white with lots of pastel blue and some navy/royal blue and everything very square. We've tried to go a bit more round on some of the objects and as the logo is

predominately red and yellow, it was decided to go in the middle with oranges for the navigation etc, while changing the blue to the background colour.

I would suggest looking at some modern websites for inspiration. If this is updated I would hate to see what it looked like before.

If your solely an online company I can tell you right now that your not gonna be selling much with the current design. I would suggest hiring an actual designer if your business depends on it.
