Need your help with upgrading my wifes notebook...

Recommended Posts

My wife has a HP ZE4210 with the stock 128 RAM in it. ITs been running kinda sluggish, so I would like to beef it up by adding 256 more of RAM to it.

I checked HP's page, and they show that I need part 317435-001 ($272.31 - 256MB memory module, PC2100 266-MHz DDR (Double Data Rate) SDRAM DIMM).

I found the same part listed at ACS Parts (http://www.acsparts.com/compaq/compaq_data/memory.html) for only $127.

Then I found it at MemoryX (http://www.memoryx.net/269086b25.html) for only $48.88!!

This seems like a DRASTIC differences in prices to me.

Have any of you:

1) Upgraded RAM on your HP notebooks (ZE4200 series specifically)? If so, what brand and type of RAM?

2) Had any experiance with either of these companies? What are their products like? Is it HP branded, or compatible 3rd part?

3) Any suggestions on other places to purchase RAM for this model of laptop?

Thanks!

Usually they just use standard ram, but I don't have experience with that model notebook. I would first actual open the notebook and look at the ram and see if it's just plain pc 2100 ram(low or high profile).

If it is then you can buy the 2100 ram from whatever store and brand you want.

Do a search on google.com, for notebook RAM, there is a site that sells it cheap and can tell you what you can upgrade.
