I've spent the better part of my morning talking to my new iPhone — and I've gotta admit that it's been fun.

No, I don't need to see a therapist — at least not about my relationship with my gadgets — I've just been testing out Siri, the intelligent voice-control feature built into the iPhone 4S.

Siri is, simply put, amazing. It can schedule appointments, take dictation, check the weather, find restaurants, search the web, and more. It basically serves as a virtual assistant of sorts.

But it moonlights as a comedian.

Below are some of the sillier responses Siri has given me during our chats.

I told mine "I love you" and it replied back: "That's nice of you, now can we please get back to work."................LOL...LOL

I also told Siri: "You are beautiful" and it replied back: "Thank you but I'm sure you tell that to all your virtual assistants."

I just asked Siri: "Do you like Microsoft?" It replied: "I'd rather not say." I then asked it the same question again and it replied: "Can we please change the subject."

Oh this technology is going to sky-rocket in the coming years. I bet you anything you want they will implement it on the next version of MacOSX. Pretty soon we won't have a need to use a keyboard and mouse ever again and, like in Star Trek, we will be carrying a conversation with our PCs. The future (if we don't annihilate ourselves first) is going to be awesome.

really? years... android is how old? the best app that does it is about a year old (edwin) and it isn't as good as this one. well said hypocrite... well said. android speech to speech sucks compare to siri (more like the old voice control app). edwin is good, but still not as good as this one.

from what i hear, the speech recognition of android is just as good as siri's. but siri makes it all more natural. in android you have to learn the voice commands and thats it. if you step out of that, it will end up in a regular google search. this will work okay for things like the weather, but not so much for the rest of funny things.

"Voice actions" for Android is natural and basically a siri copycat.

"Remind me to buy milk in 5 seconds" - "Okay I will remind you" and it works.

"I want to drive to Lincoln UK" - "Travel safely" and then opens up navigation.

"How long until christmas" - "Two months and nine days"

"Tell me a joke" - "You tell one first"

"Tell me a story" - it displays a poem or short story on the screen.

"How's the weather in Lincoln UK" - it tells the weather.

"How's the weather in Lincoln UK in celsius" - it tells the weather in celsius.

"How's the weather where I am" - it tells me the weather.

"How's the weather here" - it tells me the weather.

"What is 52 fahrentheit in celsius" - it tells me.

"Show my current location" - "Home sweet home" (shows a map).

"What is Nicole's phone number" - it opens the contact.

I love it, just wish I could replace crappy Vlingo with this so that it opens up when I press the action button on my hands free kit :(

@rajputwarrior : Siri generally allows more sentences though, to get to the same result. You can even speak the words in the incorrect order and it’ll recognize the keywords of what you want. I have noticed that other vocal command center is more straight to the point, which results in a faster use than Siri. But with Siri’s replies, you really have the impression that the machine hears and understands you, which makes it a little more attractive to use IMO.

@everyone : While I have been very impressed with the vocal commands I have seen on the Samsung Galaxy S II, it’s not as complete as Siri is. You can definitely see the Apple touch in Siri that makes it stand out completely. You guys may find this ridiculous, but this is how Apple has managed to beat the competition a lot of times, just by having this Apple touch, a.k.a. perfectionism. Every detail counts. The proof? Look at the sales.

On another note, what happens if you tell it "I feel sick". Does it give you the nearest pharmacies (I think you call them drug stores…) or the clinics, maybe? Or if it’s a little extreme, the hospitals?

and that's my point, it makes things more natural as if you are talking to a person, where as the other apps out there make it seem you are talking to a machine.
