Hmm.

You said you had firmware version 2.00NA on there currently, did it come with that firmware? because that's only supported on REVB.

...And you can't access the d-link website? this one?: http://www.dlink.com...are&pid=DIR-655

Yup. It's true, everytime I try to access it, I get booted.

Please wait...

The gateway is currently measuring your network connection.

Accessing this web page might have an effect on the measurement.

This page will refresh shortly.

And that's the d-link website? not the router config page? when you go to http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3.firmware&pid=DIR-655 ?

"Yup. It does >.>"

Nonsense -- sorry but how would it renew its IP if its static? Do you actually know what static is, you sure that is what it set for? Why do you feel its renewing an IP??

"The gateway is currently measuring your network connection."

So let me get this straight.. internet works fine unless you go to this link? http://www.dlink.com...are&pid=DIR-655

Then what exactly does your router does - can we see a screen shot of this measuring network connection?

Incorrect sir. Especially on the whole Linksys not being junk thing.

Oh really ? LOL

How is that incorrect ? Because you're 1 little D-Link has worked & you had a Linksys 10 years ago ?

I might be using the wroing term then, I'm just going off what you guys have been describing what is happening, so I apologize.

The Measuring Network connection is when it's trying to get a READ on my connection speed, or I would assume, acquiring an IP adress, it happens everytime it starts up. And it does it whenever the router drops the connection. I'm going to try getting it to do this again, only this time while recording a video.

Edit: ...This is going to be harder then I thought. I can't force it to do it again >_>

don't really need a video -- but a screen shot of your routers wan setting would tell us if its static or not.

For example here is from emulator show that its static! You would have an IP in there vs the 0.0.0.0 shown in this example.. You can block out the last couple of octets if your worried about people knowing your public -- but please leave the first 2, so we are SURE your not behind a double nat and have private address on your routers want -- which is anything that starts with 10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x or 172.16-31.x.x

Why would your router do any sort of wan test from just going to the product page on dlink??

I mentioned that in your log listing you gave that is what looked what was happening to me - your router clearly released its lease(IP) at :44 seconds and did not get a new one until :52

But then you stated you changed it to static -- if the router is set to static it hard to believe it would be renewing its IP.

Do you mean your computer is renewing its IP on your router rebooting?

Yes, it is static, I know I did that correctly.

This is what happens:

Usually, if I visit the support page (This is just an example of the incident, it will do it to other webpages and games, such as Terraria, attempting to connect to a friend or even while playing with him) after a couple seconds of loading, I will lose internet access. JUST the internet.

I stay connected to the router, but internet access is lost.

Upon loading the router page just as this is happening, in Status -> Device Info, the Connection Up Time timer will reset to 0:00, then upon refreshing the page, it will take me to the "Measuring connection speed" page. The router has not rebooted itself (If it did, it would have disconnected my computer entirely, and the router would be inaccessible until I could access it again)

Lol no. My 4 Linksys / Cisco routers all different models with the oldest one being a wrt54g and new one being WRT600N, none of them have been turned off for almost a year and run flawless.

D-Links like to act up, drop connection, reboot, etc. Ive dealt with it enough, also with netgear and ESPECIALLY BELKIN. Belkin are not routers, its a good way for a customer to get a nice piece of plastic for a "cheap" price of $20-40 and MAYBE connect 2 computers to the internet, but if any streaming is done, there goes the internet connection.

I would say, after all the troubleshooting, if nothing helps, call dlink, if they end up telling you its ****, get a linksys/cisco

I've had the exact opposite experience. I've had several Linksys routers that have been junk, and my two Belkins has been running fine for two years.

Every company has their lemons. I've had decent experience with D-Link and netgear both. In fact my GF has the DIR-655 and it's been fine for the last several years.

I'm going to try switching to buying Buffalo routers from now on though, for the DD-WRT support. Some come with it already installed.

The highlighted in red above is what im looking for on your router

He is not going to see SNR on that dir-655, its NOT a modem!! its just a router -- Which brings up what modem are you connected to??

Maybe its your modem resetting?? Which would explain your router loosing its internet, And part of the reason I asked for the first 2 octets you had set on your dir-655, so I would know if your behind a double nat.

Edit: Ah, modem.

I wouldn't have any clue what my modem is. Nor do I know how to ACCESS it >_>

Xplornet is a wireless/satellite internet provider. I have a fixed wireless internet connection. So my modem is basically on top of a tower outside the house >_>

Here's a question for ya, if you directly connect to the modem bypassing the router, does it still disconnect? if not while you have it setup like that download the firmware update.

^ exactly, I would take the router out of the picture to see if still have connection issues -- if so then you know its not the router. If works fine, then yup try updating your routers firmware.

Happened again while playing Terraria, these are the logs during the event.

And again take the router out of the equation -- does it happen while just connected to your modem? There is nothing in those logs that suggest loss of internet connection. or even a reboot?

    • Microsoft Weekly: Windows 11 version 25H2 is official, free updates for Windows 10, and more by Taras Buria This week's news recap is here, and it is full of interesting and important stories. We have Windows 11 version 25H2 announcement, free extended security updates for Windows 10, redesigned BSOD, non-security updates with new features, and more. Quick links: Windows 10 and 11 Windows Insider Program Updates are available Reviews are in Gaming news Great deals to check Windows 11 and Windows 10 Here, we talk about everything happening around Microsoft's latest operating system in the Stable channel and preview builds: new features, removed features, controversies, bugs, interesting findings, and more. And, of course, you may find a word or two about older versions. The biggest Windows story of this week was undoubtedly the launch of the Extended Security Update program for Windows 10, which will soon be out of support (governments are now issuing warnings to Windows 10 users). What is interesting is that Microsoft is giving away free security updates—all users need to do is back up their PCs with the Windows Backup tool. Other options include paying with 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points or $30, so pick your poison. If you are thinking about staying on Windows 10, perhaps this article will convince you to switch. Microsoft published a few reasons why Windows 11 is a better choice than the outgoing Windows 10. Another post compares the performance of the two operating systems in another attempt to make you ditch Windows 10. There is also a new ESU guide for office PCs that do not support Windows 11. Another major story is about the Blue Screen of Death, which will soon become the Black Screen of Death and lose its iconic smiley face. Microsoft revealed that the redesign is coming later this summer, alongside Quick Machine Recovery. This new tool can fix PCs that cannot boot due to outages, malware, or other software nastiness. We are not done with big news just yet. Microsoft confirmed that Windows 11 version 25H2 is coming later this year. This year's feature update is coming soon, and the first officially marked preview builds are now available for testing. Microsoft also released the June 2025 non-security updates for Windows 10 and 11 users. It all started with Windows 10, which received KB5061087 with build number 19045.6036. Windows 11 version 24H2 received KB5060829, and Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2 received KB5060826. Also, Windows 11 received a new configuration update to resolve the stuck Windows Update (and new setup updates), Windows Server 2025 got a new security baseline, and the Media Creation Tool now downloads the latest Windows 11 images with the June 2025 Patch Tuesday fixes. Another important story is about Secure Boot, one of Windows 11's hardware requirements. Microsoft published a lengthy blog post warning that its first certificates will soon expire, and users should prepare to update them if they want their PCs to be secure and compatible with third-party apps going forward. No week goes by without some Windows issues. This time, Dell acknowledged a problem with Night Light on certain Windows on ARM PCs. The bug breaks Night Light on the secondary display, but Dell says you should blame Qualcomm and its Oryon chipset. Microsoft, on the other hand, confirmed more issues with Chrome on Windows. This week's Windows trivia includes an interesting story from Microsoft veteran Raymond Chen. He published a new blog post where he recalled how PC manufacturers used to trick BIOS copyright strings to get full editions of trial versions of various apps. To finish this week's Windows section, here is a small tip for those who want to make Windows 11 feel a little snappier. A hidden accessibility feature can make the user interface much more responsive and fast, so check it out here. Reviews are in Here is the hardware and software we reviewed this week Steven Parker reviewed the TerraMaster F4 SSD, an extremely lightweight and quiet all-SSD NAS with some good connectivity, a decent price tag, and good design. It is not flawless, but it still managed to score 8.5 out of 10 on Steven's NAS scale. Robbie Khan reviewed the Keychron Lemokey G2 8K Wireless mouse. It is lightweight, has onboard memory, supports Keychron Launcher, and includes a good cable and an adapter. However, with an 8/10 rating at Robbie's scale, it has some cons that you should consider before buying.
