Hmm.

You said you had firmware version 2.00NA on there currently, did it come with that firmware? because that's only supported on REVB.

...And you can't access the d-link website? this one?: http://www.dlink.com...are&pid=DIR-655

Yup. It's true, everytime I try to access it, I get booted.

Please wait...

The gateway is currently measuring your network connection.

Accessing this web page might have an effect on the measurement.

This page will refresh shortly.

And that's the d-link website? not the router config page? when you go to http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3.firmware&pid=DIR-655 ?

"Yup. It does >.>"

Nonsense -- sorry but how would it renew its IP if its static? Do you actually know what static is, you sure that is what it set for? Why do you feel its renewing an IP??

"The gateway is currently measuring your network connection."

So let me get this straight.. internet works fine unless you go to this link? http://www.dlink.com...are&pid=DIR-655

Then what exactly does your router does - can we see a screen shot of this measuring network connection?

Incorrect sir. Especially on the whole Linksys not being junk thing.

Oh really ? LOL

How is that incorrect ? Because you're 1 little D-Link has worked & you had a Linksys 10 years ago ?

I might be using the wroing term then, I'm just going off what you guys have been describing what is happening, so I apologize.

The Measuring Network connection is when it's trying to get a READ on my connection speed, or I would assume, acquiring an IP adress, it happens everytime it starts up. And it does it whenever the router drops the connection. I'm going to try getting it to do this again, only this time while recording a video.

Edit: ...This is going to be harder then I thought. I can't force it to do it again >_>

don't really need a video -- but a screen shot of your routers wan setting would tell us if its static or not.

For example here is from emulator show that its static! You would have an IP in there vs the 0.0.0.0 shown in this example.. You can block out the last couple of octets if your worried about people knowing your public -- but please leave the first 2, so we are SURE your not behind a double nat and have private address on your routers want -- which is anything that starts with 10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x or 172.16-31.x.x

Why would your router do any sort of wan test from just going to the product page on dlink??

I mentioned that in your log listing you gave that is what looked what was happening to me - your router clearly released its lease(IP) at :44 seconds and did not get a new one until :52

But then you stated you changed it to static -- if the router is set to static it hard to believe it would be renewing its IP.

Do you mean your computer is renewing its IP on your router rebooting?

Yes, it is static, I know I did that correctly.

This is what happens:

Usually, if I visit the support page (This is just an example of the incident, it will do it to other webpages and games, such as Terraria, attempting to connect to a friend or even while playing with him) after a couple seconds of loading, I will lose internet access. JUST the internet.

I stay connected to the router, but internet access is lost.

Upon loading the router page just as this is happening, in Status -> Device Info, the Connection Up Time timer will reset to 0:00, then upon refreshing the page, it will take me to the "Measuring connection speed" page. The router has not rebooted itself (If it did, it would have disconnected my computer entirely, and the router would be inaccessible until I could access it again)

Lol no. My 4 Linksys / Cisco routers all different models with the oldest one being a wrt54g and new one being WRT600N, none of them have been turned off for almost a year and run flawless.

D-Links like to act up, drop connection, reboot, etc. Ive dealt with it enough, also with netgear and ESPECIALLY BELKIN. Belkin are not routers, its a good way for a customer to get a nice piece of plastic for a "cheap" price of $20-40 and MAYBE connect 2 computers to the internet, but if any streaming is done, there goes the internet connection.

I would say, after all the troubleshooting, if nothing helps, call dlink, if they end up telling you its ****, get a linksys/cisco

I've had the exact opposite experience. I've had several Linksys routers that have been junk, and my two Belkins has been running fine for two years.

Every company has their lemons. I've had decent experience with D-Link and netgear both. In fact my GF has the DIR-655 and it's been fine for the last several years.

I'm going to try switching to buying Buffalo routers from now on though, for the DD-WRT support. Some come with it already installed.

The highlighted in red above is what im looking for on your router

He is not going to see SNR on that dir-655, its NOT a modem!! its just a router -- Which brings up what modem are you connected to??

Maybe its your modem resetting?? Which would explain your router loosing its internet, And part of the reason I asked for the first 2 octets you had set on your dir-655, so I would know if your behind a double nat.

Edit: Ah, modem.

I wouldn't have any clue what my modem is. Nor do I know how to ACCESS it >_>

Xplornet is a wireless/satellite internet provider. I have a fixed wireless internet connection. So my modem is basically on top of a tower outside the house >_>

Here's a question for ya, if you directly connect to the modem bypassing the router, does it still disconnect? if not while you have it setup like that download the firmware update.

^ exactly, I would take the router out of the picture to see if still have connection issues -- if so then you know its not the router. If works fine, then yup try updating your routers firmware.

Happened again while playing Terraria, these are the logs during the event.

info Nov 3 06:25:43 [69020.920000] module arch cleanup sch_ubicom_streamengine: OCM instruction memory free of 0 @00000000

And again take the router out of the equation -- does it happen while just connected to your modem? There is nothing in those logs that suggest loss of internet connection. or even a reboot?

    • Zen Browser 1.13b by Razvan Serea Zen Browser is a privacy-focused, open-source web browser built on Mozilla Firefox, offering users a secure and customizable browsing experience. It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces. • It is fundamentally impossible to secure delete files, especially on newer HDDs and all SSDs. You never know how the controller firmware is going to layout data or copy data around to optimize access or invoke wear leveling. The only way to securely “delete” something is to put it on an encrypted file system and forget the encryption key, assuming any apps you open the files in don’t copy the files to a local cache on the boot volumes.
    • TBF, it has had PST support for quite a while now. But I still want them to add the ability to drag & drop between accounts / PSTs.
    • LibreOffice closes in on Microsoft Office, leaves Windows 7/8 behind in 25.8 Beta 1 by David Uzondu The Document Foundation has released LibreOffice 25.8 Beta 1 for public testing on Linux, macOS, and Windows. This is the second pre-release for the 25.8 cycle and the foundation says that the final, stable version of LibreOffice 25.8 is expected to land at the end of August 2025. Starting off with Writer, LibreOffice's Word, the developers have finally addressed some long-standing annoyances, including a new command to easily insert a paragraph break right before a table. This beta also introduces a useful privacy feature in its Auto-Redact tool, letting you strip all images from a document with a single option. To use it, go to Tools and select the Auto-Redact option: The application has improved its ability to handle different languages for punctuation, preventing mix-ups in multilingual documents. Other notable improvements have also been made. A new hyphenation rule lets you choose to prevent a word from splitting at the end of a page, moving the whole line to the next page instead. Microsoft Word has had this feature for years now. The Navigator now displays a handy tooltip with word and character counts for headings and their sub-outlines. Scrolling behavior when selecting text has been improved, making it less erratic. A new command with a keyboard shortcut was added for converting fields into plain text. Calc gets a lot of new functions that bring it closer to its competitors like Excel, including TEXTSPLIT, VSTACK, and WRAPROWS. Impress now properly supports embedded fonts in PPTX files, which should reduce headaches when sharing presentations with PowerPoint users. Alongside these additions, the project is also cleaning house; support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 has been completely dropped. There are also smaller UI tweaks across the suite, like allowing a single click to enter rotation mode for objects in Writer and Calc. macOS users get better integration, with proper support for native full screen mode and new window management features from the Sequoia update. In terms of performance, the team has optimized everything from loading huge DOC files and XLSX spreadsheets with tons of conditional formatting to simply switching between sheets in Calc. These improvements should be noticeable, especially when working with complex documents. A new application-wide "Viewer mode" has also been implemented, which opens all files in a read-only state for quick, safe viewing. On a related note, The Document Foundation has joined efforts by the likes of KDE to encourage Windows 10 users to switch to Linux. Also, you might have heard that Denmark, in a bid to lessen its reliance on Microsoft, has decided to make a full switch to LibreOffice, with plans to begin phasing out Office 365 in certain ministries as early as next month. If you're interested in this release, you can read the full release notes and download the binaries for your platform: Windows, macOS (Intel | Apple Silicon), or Linux (DEB | RPM).
