How to burn a .img to a bootable disk?

Recommended Posts

I would like to burn a .img file to a DVD making it bootable as it is a Linux distro, I know how to do this with .iso but not with a .img anyone knows how to make a .img file into a bootable disk? I am using CDXP, a free disk burner software and it does not recognise .img files.

Thanks

You would burn it to CD/DVD that same way you would an ISO. If you burner of choice does not understand .img -- more than likely you can just rename to .iso so your software can see it.

Or just grab different software, imgburn will burn .img for example.

Where exactly did you get this .img file - what linux distro? You sure its an actual bootable image? Or not a floppy image?

OK, I will try Imgburn or BurnAware as I do not want to waste a DVD in case I rename the file to .iso and it it doesn't work, it is a DragonflyBSD OS, I just said Linux to make it easier to understand, and I am pretty sure this is not a floppy image, this is a +1GB image, I don't know why they don't make .iso images available I got it from their official site.

I had a look at the Dragonfly BSD website. They also offer .bz2 compressed .iso files:

No they don't for the GUI version, the download links can all be found on the website front page, CD is an .iso but the GUI and USB versions are only available as .img, and the link you provided is not the stable version, is a snapshot of the 32bit CD version.

I looked on Apple's site, but this icon isn't listed: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/learn-the-meaning-of-the-status-icons-iphef7bb57dc/ios
