FINDER - Arrange files by name, folders first.

Recommended Posts

Just as the thread title says. In Finder, s there a way to arrange files by name, folders first? As it is now, arranging by name also has folders in the name structure. I'd prefer folders first, by name. Then the rest of the files by name.

I'd recommend giving TotalFinder a try. It has the ability to arrange folders on top and a lot more.

I second TotalFinder, it adds amazing functionality to Finder :)

TotalFinder looks really nice. I'd much rather not pay for something, but this does look nice. I'll try it via the trial and see how it goes.

Appreciate the input, guys.

I think one solution could be to try out a new "Order for sorted lists" within the Language and Text preferences. Try an European country. I think that the nordic countries, like denmark, will change the way things are sorted.

Actually, while writing this I just tried it - I'm using English OS X and changed to "Danish" as the Order for sorted lists. It might be easier for me to select danish because I speak that natively. But I don't see anything else affected by this selection throughout the system other than "Sort by Kind" gives me Folders on top and sorted by Name thereafter. The Utilities folder within Applications is sorted to be first now rather than last as with the Standard setting.

Bear with me if I haven't understood your question.
