New iMac Soon or?

Recommended Posts

Easy to say that when you already got a Mac to work with :p, I want to get one now!! :D

I remember pre ordering my first mac.... it was a mac mini and took forever to get to me! (I ordered it when the Mac Mini was first introduced....my mom still had it until about a year ago....and she managed to sell it for $200, unbelievable)

Hi guys, I am getting my iMac ordered soon in about a week time, I was wondering, Where do I get iMac memory from? I am thinking of keeping the 4GB and buying memory and putting it in myself to get about 12GB of memory.

Buy an 8GB (2x4Gb) Ramkit from crucial.com's uk site :) Costs about ?35 and next day delivery.

Thanks!! I might go with the 8GB on Apple site then add more to it i think the 8GB does 2 x 4GB? so I can buy another 2 x 4GB and will have plenty! :) Should be this week when I buy the iMac!

You'd save yourself masses of cash if you buy it from Apple with the standard 4gig (which comes as 2x 4Gb) and then bought 4x 4Gb from crucial.com/uk and ditched the 4Gb that comes with the iMac (or save it for a rainy day emergency)

Buying anything beyond base ram from Apple is just insane.

If he buys 16 GB, yes. If he buys 8 GB, I doubt he?ll save much more than $20.

Well you can get 16GB 2x 8GB sticks for about $120 now, so spend $240 and load it with 32GB of RAM. :-)

I dont think its motherboard supports it. Otherwise Apple would propose it, wouldn?t they ?

Also, I don?t think having 32 GB of RAM will increase anything over 16 GB. In fact, I?m not sure 16 GB increases anything over 8 GB, because I have never filled my 8 GB so far with all the work I?ve been doing on it in the last 2 years and a half.

Really? I use about 6 Macs all with 8GB of Memory and I manage to fill 8GB easily within 20 minutes of work or so. But then I don't close apps when I'm done with them.

32Gb will work in the 2011 iMacs thanks to Sandybridge, it's widely known. Apple don't officially support it because (apparently) at the time 8Gb sticks were cost prohibitive. But yes, it'll take and use 32Gb.

Edit: I've just looked at August 2011 prices for an 8Gb stick (single 8Gb 1333mhz) costing $500, that'd have been $2,000 for 32 Gb back then. $500 for the full 4x8Gb now.

(not sure why i'm quoting in dollars, i'm British o_O)

i've started paging out on 12Gb once or twice

Pretty intense. You guys must be hardcore into graphics and video editing then.

It would make sense, most models are using designs that haven't been updated in a long time...but there's nothing but rumors

It?s always getting harder and harder to make better designs though. From now on, I don?t have any expectations anymore. We?re far away from our yellow plastic boxes from back in the time. At this point, we will get redesigns just for the sake of it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally ordered it, will be here by 3rd March at latest :) Specification I went with was:

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

I think I will enjoy it :D

    • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
    • BS, I've yet to run into a typical pc user that uses it at all, let alone half the population.
