CPU Temp Question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I installed my Fx-8150 recently and looked around the net for some details on the temps it gets. As stated on CPU World the max effective temp is around 61 C

After that I downloaded Core Temp program and saw that it is showing me an idle 20C but as soon as I start to play Metro 2033 it registers the highest temp around 50C +/- 5C

The CPU has the stock cooler on it so Im not hoping too much on that I just want to know if its safe to run on so high temps until the next month when Ill try to get a new cooler for it?

It's absolutely fine. They are made to operate at that temps.

You can lower it with a good aftermarket cooler. I recommend Cooler Master V6 or V8. Any other will do as well, though.

Just make sure that the one you buy is going to fit in your case and has the brackets needed to install on your CPU socket.

Going to water cooling is not justified unless you plan to overclock a lot.

Well I doubt I will overclock it at all. It runs fine with the stock clock but yeah the temps freaked me out a little.

I think the V8 wont fit so Ill try to go for the V6 at first :)

Thanks for your reply :)

Those are good aftermarket coolers, but just so you know, the stock coolers are just fine. No CPU company is going to supply a stock cooler that DOESN'T do it's job. I've only put one aftermarket cooler on the machines I've built, and that's because I got a Black Edition 5400+ that didn't come with one in the first place.

It seems you've upgraded cooler now but a cheaper and often less fiddly way to take the edge off of CPU temps is to install better / more case fans. Of course this only applies if you have a case that lets you put a few in.

I installed a second case fan recently and it took temperatures down 6? on average across the board - so it's great if you want to restrict the max temperature of components. Of course, aftermarket CPU is better if you have a CPU that is dangerously overheating.

I already have two 120mm fans, one in front and one in back, also want to buy one for the side.

My main problem was the CPU so got an aftermarket cooler for it as fast as I could.

I'm not saying the stock cooler was all that crap but lets be honest, it ain't that good either.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • I think I understood the article fine. Online password managers open users up to more possibilities of getting hacked, and due to KeePass being offline and local it reduces the idea of getting hacked. If someone chooses to put their database online they're kinda missing the point. With regards to the idea of the on-prem idea, I would have two issues. I'm not sure about the first issue, but I wouldn't be surprised about them offering a cloud storage for the passwords that most wouldn't bother to switch off, regardless of if they went for on-prem or not. The second issue is that the on-prem solution for Bitwarden costs money, whereas KeePass is free and open-source (as far as I am aware). The article points out how to sync the database between devices, and I recognise that deficiency in security. But it isn't a necessity. So both services can offer a same idea, but one is free and the other isn't...choices, choices.... But to each their own.

    • I am not surprised because life is the product of a lot of biochemical and physical processes that releases various energies as a by-product. The only thing new here is the detection of these photon emissions. The researches noted this "glow" is not a metaphysical one. They don't even immediately end when one is dead. Things like fires, light bulbs, and on a bigger scale stars release a lot more "light" and they are hardly alive.
