BackTrack Boot Options

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone -- this looks to be a really cool site and I've been looking for a forum to join.

Anyway. I've been using various distros of Linux for years but BackTrack has consistently been my favourite. My question is fairly simple, so simple that I feel I should already know the answer.

Call me old-fashioned, but BackTrack 3 is the one I know and love and I'd like to stick with it if possible. I use Live CDs %99 of the time. The problem I'm having is my girlfriend's USB keyboard will not work until AFTER the boot screen goes by -- and it automatically chooses KDE, when I usually use VESA KDE because it seems to be more compatible with more graphics chipsets. Anyway, usually I would just scroll down to that and pick it, or hit TAB to edit the boot options, but I can't do either.

There must be a way to edit the boot options to make VESA the default in the ISO before I burn it, that way I can burn a special copy that I can use at her place without having to figure out the keyboard problem.

On a side note, as KDE boots, it says 'Autoconfiguring X window system, if you get a black screen or an 'out of range' error hit Ctrl+Alt+NumPlus a few times. I've tried this a bunch of times and I still get nothing but a black screen on her computer. I've had this problem before and I always just choose VESA KDE and that fixes it. I've read a bit about this issue and it seems to basically boil down to an outdated graphics chipset.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated. I'm pretty sure that the boot config when using a live CD is in /boot/isolinux/isolinux.cfg but I can't seem to figure out how to change the default setting, and I don't wanna mess around and waste a bunch of blanks figuring it out.
