Just make sure the battery gets fully drained before charging.

From what I've read there's no need for that, in fact it can make things go down hill even quicker.

Yep the need to "drain" batterys has long gone. No new laptop requires such battery tactics.

My MacBook Pro is a mid 2010 model, and I have 158 load cycles on it so far. Coconut Battery says it's 21 months old (which is about right since I got it for my birthday in April that year). The current and design capacities have me concerned though. Current capacity is 6345 mAh and the design capacity is 6900 mAh, so it's at 91% capacity now, which is a noticeable amount of battery life (I think close to 45mins or so).

Not exactly true - whilst Li-Ion batteries don't suffer from the memory effect, the controller on the battery itself needs occasional calibration to work properly - allowing the battery to drain and then recharging it fully fixes it most of the time. Apple itself says a full discharge once per month is a recommended procedure to expand the lifespan of the battery.

Correct. If you discharge it to 75% and then charge, it only counts as a 1/4 cycle. You can do that four times before it counts as a full cycle.

Draining it fully helps calibrate the battery meter, but doesn't necessarily prolong the life of the battery. Now if you use it all the time on AC power, yea, draining it once in awhile fully will prolong the life of the battery.

Can you point me to the article(s) you read ? Right now, I am one who prefers discharging the battery a lot before recharging it.

Oh and don?t leave your battery plugged in all the time. In fact, no more than 8 hours consecutive. It?s good to let it drain every now and then.

He has a point, however it should (as far as I am taught and know) only matter if you leave it like that for extended periods of time (you store the battery without use for months).
