[UK/BBC] Top Gear Series 18

If you are meandering along on a standard road or have a specially designed and tuned racing automatic gearbox.

Neither of these apply in the Cee'ds case though. Auto vs manual for that when trying to rev the **se off it will make a big difference.

Well did I say anything about the Kia Ceed? No.

I'm kind of surprised by all of the somewhat negative reviews of the episode. I thought it was honestly one of the best episodes of the past few seasons. Yes, the Will.I.Am segment wasn't that good, but I was somewhat surprised by his honesty (although he definitely wasn't modest). Also, that Lambo is ****ing sexy.

All in all, I think it was at least an 8 and I'm very excited for the next six episodes.

Brilliant episode, loved the Italy piece although maybe they should have gone for a review show rather than 'larking about' after such a good Christmas Special.

Is it just me or is JClarkston looking OLD AND FAT (more than usual) - how old is he now??

You said there was no difference in shift times and efficiency for modern automatics vs manuals and that is just wrong for a huge number of cars. Not just the Cee'd.

So you meant "The differences in shift times/efficiency are just nil these days apart from the Kia Cee'd" Did you?

Fair enough. Then, in most high performance cars, it makes very little difference.

You guys suck. Todays episode was brilliant, even better than the first. Informative, about cars, and entertaining. The programme description made it sound like a potential failure but it was a great episode. Even the SIARPC segment wasn't too shabby this week. They've already gone well above and beyond the best of the previous series.

China segment FTW (Y)

Indeed, I thoroughly enjoyed this week's episode, especially the chinese segment (and with Attack Stig going berserk).

Scirwode

I think it is the whole limited range plug in for hours thing they are against. I seem to remember they quite liked the Tesla roadster.

I have to admit I do agree with them. Not just from an anti environmentalist point of view but just because the technology doesn't work yet. I liken these new electric cars to the first mobile phones, the ones that were massive bricks on shoulder straps. They just aren't any good for the majority of people.

Also thought it was a bit naff last night. Could have spent more time on either the Nascar or the China thing instead of the news or the long dull review of the Merc.

Yep they did a test a while ago, basically burst out laughing when they found out they need to wait hours for it to recharge and they also didn't like the fact that batteries need to be replaced every few years and cost of that can be around 50% of the car price.

The part about the batteries needing to be replaced every few years though is bull****. No one knows how often they need to be replaced yet, but the current batteries won't reach their "end-of-life" period (when they reach 80% efficiency) for eight years. And this is with lithium-ion batteries; some Ford Ranger EVs from the 1990s with less-efficient lead-acid and nickel-metal hydrate batteries are still going strong over a decade later.

And when the time does come to replace them, you'll almost certainly get better batteries than what you started out with, so you've got the rare moment where your car ends up better than new, range-wise.

I think I'd have taken the Noble over the Mclaren, just. Seems like it would a purer funner drive.

I hated the interview it was so cheesey and fake, Clarkson seemed to be just completely pandering to him. Trying to get applause saying he is the most inspirational people they've ever had, was he drunk or something? ****ing black eyed peas singer?

I can't wait until the electric car batteries do become end of life, imagine the palaver of destroying them. It's bad enough disposing a normal car battery

At this point, Nissan would say "the joke's on you"...

http://www.thechargingpoint.com/knowledge-hub/hot-topics/How-long-do-the-batteries-last.html

Nissan has developed a system to turn LEAF batteries into electric storage devices at renewable power stations, meaning they'll have a second life after they come out of the car.

Then I'd turn round to Nissan, take a look at their cars then the joke is back on them. Seriously this is an electric car.... kids-electric-car.jpg

If anyone has any sort of interest in cars, then they know the electric cars are pointless, not worth the money and generally there not exciting.

The only way forward currently other than petrol & diesel has got to be hydrogen and even thats not perfect, so back to petrol :D

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
    • How do you connect 5.1 Speakers to this thing?
    • I agree with both of you... It's absolutely imperative that science is completely based on actual proven facts and hard evidence and is not considered dogmatic in any way. Science is not a religion and it will never be, and that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
