Game Informer has gone live with the first in-game screenshots from Naughty Dog?s The Last of Us,as promised. Get them below the break. The game will be released sometime in late 2012 or early 2013.

Most post-apocalyptic worlds are bleak and gray. Naughty Dog utilizes natural growth to spice up the color palette and add a sense of the abnormal. Notice the yellow bridge in the background? Yep, this is Pittsburgh.

The developers stress that The Last of Us is not one long escort mission. Although you won't control Ellie in the game, her AI is one of the team's primary areas of focus. In our demo she always managed to keep up, yet stay out of the way. She didn't seem to need any babysitting at all.

Combat includes both gunplay and melee attacks. Weapons will break after repeated use, so you'll have to scavenge around for new items frequently.

Visually, it reminds me of the Uncharted games which isn't a bad thing. The Naughty Dog game engine is quite impressive. I just hope they don't take too much from Uncharted.

If only they developed games for the PC. I love their work and they've pushed the PS3's hardware to new boundaries.

Agreed. I often find myself imagining what they could do with PC hardware.

Just look at those washed out textures on the pick-up. Seriously, is that what passes for AMAZING for a 2013 game? The foliage seems nice, though.

Then again I probably shouldn't troll in PS3 threads *cough*

Nah they look bad, but I'm sure they'll get touched up. A lot of the graphical polishing/finishing touches for the Uncharted games came in the last 3 months of dev cycle.

We are talking about a system released in 2007..... The first two shot's looks great and like uncharted will lok even better in motion. Seriously I think it looks amazing, not for the tech, but for the style anddetails of the run down city. This is coming from someone who doesn't even own a ps3 and has never played an uncharted game....

That's why I said I shouldn't really troll here. I am a graphics ######, plain and simple. That makes my platform bias very apparent.

I find it a little weird that they didn't polish things up for the screenshots.

I think you mean doctor them up and not polish, which it is pretty well known that is usually what most developers do. They either bump up all the settings to what is usually unrealistic settings for the average end user (2 580 GTX's in SLi for example), or they use a developer version of the engine that is incredibly doctored up just to take screenshots, so I would much rather have a developer show us the truth rather than an unrealistic look that if I tried to play it, it would be a slide show on my PC because the FPS would be that low. Also as pointed out, Naughty Dog is known for releasing screenshots that are not representative of the final product. They really do a whole lot of polish in the last few months.

Not only that, while they are fine and dandy, I do not mind nice visuals if and when they are available, but they really mean diddly squat at the end of the day. If the game does not play good, they are irrelevant. You cannot polish a turd is an old saying that comes to mind.

Finally, I do feel that style plays a huge role in the overall feel of a game, so nice visuals are not always just about anti aliasing and post processing and whatever other fancy terms people throw around. Style is incredibly important to me.

I too am a graphics ######, and if this was on pc, I would definately have different comments to make on the screenshots.

I do also find it kinda wierd now I think about it that of the 3 screens they released one has a hugely blurry texture plastered across it.

I do like naughty dogs engine though. There is something natural and soft about the characters you don't really see in other games. Not to mention the videos of uncharted i've seen in motion look astounding. They are certainly leading edge when it comes to video game animations. imo

This game is so telling me from screenshot that it needs a next generation system. i could just imagine what ND could do with the Wii U hardware if they was able to program for the Wii U omg but even so i hope with this game they eeek every mb of GPU and system ram out of the PS3 i hope they use every bit of the GPU and CPU Screw the PS3 XMB menu while the game is going this game deserves every dang resource the PS3 has

Lol, Wii U isnt next generation, its just this generation+.

We don't even know the full specs yet outside of "It'll use a quad core processor" - that ranges from the original Phenom to the Core i7 2700K.

Anyway, this looks amazing, can't wait :)

Well the Wii U will use a Current generation IBM Multi-core chip based around on the current Power 7 Processor ( 360 uses Power 4/5 design 7 years old) the Wii U will be using possiably a 4870 GPU ( 360 uses R500 based GPU similar to that of the X1900 desktop chip)

Just hope with the fact it is being built with the Uncharted engine that it gets out before Sony request it is put to as a next gen title rather than current.

If it comes for the next gen PS due to a delay, I will just get it for the next gen PS :)

    • Never used the G7 Pro, but I've never had a good experience with that style of d-pad and fighting games.
    • And I just bought a seat cushion for my mesh chair. The chair feels nice but the first time I sat in it with boxers, I realized I don't like the feel of mesh on my legs. 😂

    • This Dell 27 inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor is really cheap after a very long time by Sayan Sen Recently we covered a really good deal on an AMD RX 9070 three-fan model that's available at slightly above its MSRP. If you are looking for a GPU for 1440p gaming that's around the performance of the Nvidia RTX 5070 you should most definitely check it out. Let's say that you are looking for a monitor to pair that up with too. The Samsung 49" G9 curved QD-OLED superultrawide is a good option that can provide an immersive experience. However despite being a very good deal currently (at $855), it may seem unaffordable to you, or you may simply not want to spend as much on a monitor. In that case Dell's S2725QS can be a very good option as it's on sale at the moment for its lowest price in over six months (purchase link under the specs table down below). The big highlight of the Dell S2725QS is its 27-inch IPS panel with a 3840 x 2160 (4K UHD) resolution, offering a high pixel density that can make text appear sharper while also providing plenty of screen space for productivity and media consumption. The display supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz through both HDMI and DisplayPort, making it suitable not only for everyday desktop use but also for smoother gaming and scrolling. AMD FreeSync Premium support is included as well, helping reduce screen tearing during gaming sessions. The screen has fairly good brightness and color accuracy so you can use it for general work purpose, though photo/video editing is probably not going to be the best match for this. The technical specs of the Dell S2725QS are given in the table below: Specification Value Viewable Screen Size 27 in (68.58 cm) Screen Mode 4K UHD Maximum Resolution 3840 × 2160 Maximum Preset Resolution 3840 × 2160 @ 120 Hz Standard Refresh Rate 120 Hz Panel Technology In-plane Switching (IPS) Backlight Technology LED Edgelight System Pixel Density 163 PPI Response Time 8 ms GTG, 5 ms GTG, 4 ms GTG Horizontal Viewing Angle 178° Vertical Viewing Angle 178° Brightness 350 cd/m² (nits) Native Contrast Ratio 1500:1 Color Support 1.07 Billion Colors Color Gamut 99% sRGB (CIE 1931) Adaptive Sync AMD FreeSync Premium HDCP Support Yes Mount Type Panel Mount VESA Mount 100 × 100 mm Maximum Height Adjustment 13 cm Tilt -5° to 21° Swivel -30° to 30° Pivot ±90° Stand Adjustments Tilt, Swivel, Height, Pivot Glass Hardness 3H Horizontal Frequency 27–270 kHz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Vertical Frequency 48–120 Hz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Video Inputs 2 × HDMI 2.1 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3), 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3) Operating Temperature 0°C to 40°C Storage Temperature -20°C to 60°C Operating Humidity 10%–80% (Non-condensing) Storage Humidity 5%–95% (Non-condensing) Get it at the link below: Dell S2725QS 27-inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor: $218.49 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) (Was: $280) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
