Site critique and info

Question

Could you guys give me some feedback on this site ...

ledsavvy

how much would you have paid for the logo and also how much would you have paid for what you see there?

also, in your opinion how much would ave been taken to design this site? (a long time say 6mo, or less?)

would have you done anything different to the site? (design wise?)

The logo is very very basic, and isn't very memorable; it looks like it would have been a quick 5 - 10 minute job, therefore I would have only paid around ?5 for the logo.

The website design looks very basic as well, and the mark up isn't up to standard, here's an example of why...

<h1>

Not a member yet? <span>some text</span>

</h1>

The h1 tag is for the websites header, which optimizes SEO, so your header should be;

<h1 class="logo">LEDSavvy</h1>

And then you can style the header with

h1 .logo {

text-indent: -9999px;

background: url('') no-repeat;

width: ;

height: ;

}

To be honest, I don't want to sound harsh, I wouldn't have bought this website, and if I did for some reason I wouldn't pay more than ?30 for it.

Very basic generic design. The logo looks a hash of a Samsung LED font. Being generous ?100 at most for the entire site.

Sorry to sound harsh.

It would have taken me about a day at most to do this site. It is running on Wordpress which does a lot of the work for you.

Don't think it has any redeeming qualities. Horrible logo (plain text would have looked better than this), the bright blue bars are too bright, the blue text on them doesn't stand out, the red words clash with the blue, the cutout of the photo is sloppy and the "shadow" just looks wrong, even the arrows don't look right.

1) $0

2) I think I could knock it up in about 2 hours.

3) All of the design. It's not a terrible layout (so far as we can see), but it's hard to read (the menu mostly) and not interesting at all.

If you want some tips on coding, send me a PM and I'd be glad to help you out with structuring your code, learning correct markup etc. before you concentrate on making the design look great you want to be able to code pretty much perfectly. What's the point in designing a gorgeous website, when it won't work correctly when coded?

Also, how long have you coded/designed for, what is your experience? If you can give us an idea of this, we can set a price of your skill level.

I've been developing websites for over 6 years now, so I charge ?40 per hour for my design services, going off this, I would sell this website for about ?40 - I think I could create this within an hour. With regards to website design, I'm still in the very early stages of learning as I've only designed for about 2 years, so for my design services I usually charge about ?20 per hour.

With the correct work, time and effort, this site could look great. I mean, the layout of your elements show potential, they just need to be developed further.

Here's a small tip, before continuing with development/design of websites, why not read up on some tutorials? A great website for HTML tutorials would be HTML dog, it's a brilliant website and a good place to start. If you read through this page, you could rule out my first paragraph as you shouldn't need to contact me! :)

I don't like it at all, but it's okay if you're doing it yourself, however, if it was paid for I'd be looking for a refund (sorry).

It's a butchered version of this: http://para.llel.us/themes/unite-wp/.

This is for my buddy (I made the server and he had some other guy make the site - "friend")

well the guy that made the website asks

1600 CDN for logo (he said is creative)

(ave no clue on the actual site because I looked at it and the page does not reside on the server and pictures are stored in dropbox, code is f@cked as I only have exp in HTML and some CSS but not wordpress but I can read code and it looks like horse sh!at)

420CDN for 650 business cards

all this done in 2+ months

even though I told my friend it looks like crap and the design is beyond basic he is still puzzled so now I have proof at least that it is crap (he has not paid the guy anything yet (or maybe 500$ or something)

At first I thought people on here were being a bit harsh the logo is ok and the page is ok as well if a bit basic, but just looking at the other pages and seeing that its taken two months you have got to wonder what they have been doing. There isn't even any content to justify the time spent on it. to be honest i would always recommend frequent updates, design drafts etc to make sure you know exactly what you are getting for your money otherwise you are in danger of getting ripped off like this.

just my thoughts.

Your friend has paid $500 for that? Wow, he's crazy, and if he can't see that the design is bad he needs a slap.

Talk over these aspects of the website with your friend,

Logo - it needs to look great, and be memorable for the right reasons, at the moment it looks absolutely horrid and will be remembered for the wrong reasons.

Overall Design - The design is very messy, unorganized and cluttered (IMO) it's very basic, and looks ugly.

SEO - The website uses bad SEO, <h1></h1> tags are the main header tags which search engines look for, this should feature your website name instead of content about being a member.

PHP - The PHP is unsecure, I noticed that he is using ?page=7, I've never seen PHP on a live website like this in my life, it's so unsafe! He should have at least used .htaccess to rewrite it to http://website.com/about or something along those lines.

Time Scale - It's took 2 months+ to create a very basic website like that, that doesn't even have content in place? I could create that website in a day, with content, for half the price what he is asking.

Finally, price - he's asking for a ridiculous amount for a very very basic website.

Its WordPress. It would take 10 secs to change in the admin menu.

actually he asked about a MYSQL DB and other stuff which I was able to do, however as it stands he used nothing (was not aware of the .htaccess - though he has the rights to make changes to whatever the hell he needs to) ...

the $500 as it stands now includes

620 business cards

brochure

and whatever website he did till now and you guys saw

damn ... now I goto think (my buddy mostly) ... what to do ... @MattehCarter give me some time might contact (depending on what this guy does)

I didn't realise it was wordpress, I don't see why people still use that script.

*insecure... and you're so unbelievably wrong!

I didn't realise it was wordpress, I don't see why people still use that script.

Truly baffled! I'm lost for words!

If you don't know what you're talking about, don't pretend like you do, because it's just plain bad advice.

*insecure... and you're so unbelievably wrong!

I know it's not strictly insecure, it's just I hate seeing having URLs such as '?id=1' I just feel they should be masked a bit more, and, I kind of have OCD when it comes to the way URLs look. I guess I should have reread my post, and maybe thought about my exaggeration there. For this, I can only apologize!

Truly baffled! I'm lost for words!

Sorry, I don't work with Wordpress, nor do I know how to find out if a website is ran by wordpress. Apologies if this upset you in any way, it's just a system that has never interested me and never will. Oh, and seen as though I didn't see a 'Ran by Wordpress' footer, I thought it was a script coded by the developer.

As for 'insecure', thanks for correcting my typo.

It wasn't about 'knowing whether the site runs WP', it was 'I dunno why people still use WP'... in fact version 3.3 alone has been downloaded about 8,000,000 times, and can be used to create some beautiful [free] websites.

It's seriously evolved from 'just another blog script'... you should install it some time and have a mess around with it!

In combination with Thesis, it can be quite the 'website builder'!

I see, I'll have a look at it some time and my opinion on Wordpress might change.

    • I think you meant the "ntfs3" driver, but yes there have been a lot of fixes for it in this release and previous releases, not 100% sure if the issue you mentioned is fixed though. In any case, the new "ntfs" driver in 7.1 doesn't have that issue (at least, no reports of such have come thru), but your kernel needs to explicitly enable support for the new driver first (like how CachyOS kernel has it), and you need to edit your mount points in /etc/fstab to use "ntfs" instead of the other drivers.
    • Epic Games says Unreal Engine 6 will help developers "build content faster" using AI models by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Epic Games is rolling out the latest major update to Unreal Engine 5 today, and at the same time, the company also dropped some information on the next-generation version of the product, Unreal Engine 6. This was already revealed a few weeks ago alongside the new Rocket League upgrade reveal. The company says it is combining the features of Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fortnite to create this new version of its popular media creation tool. On top of creating entire games, the new engine will also focus on letting developers operate large-scale live service titles more easily, whether by shipping content into their own ecosystems or into Fortnite. The use of large language models is also mentioned here, with Epic saying it will be a core part of the engine. "We see LLMs, generative AI models, and tools like Claude and Codex playing a central role in helping you build content faster while maintaining the creative control you need," adds the company. Here is the rundown of what's new about version 6 of Unreal Engine: With all these changes to the programming model, portability upgrades, and generative AI integration, Epic says the new version of the engine will "change a lot about how games are made." The company aims to ship Unreal Engine 6 into early access in late 2027, with a full release planned for 12-18 months later. Epic Games also dropped a lengthy blog post about the new Unreal Engine 5.8 update for game developers over here. The release is focused on delivering better performance, customization, and streamlined workflows for development teams. This will be the final major update for this version of the engine before Epic switches to focus fully on Unreal Engine 6's early access launch.
    • Watch Louis Rossmann's recent experience on YouTube about trying to get a warranty replacement from Samsung. It's crazy.
    • That is the thing, how many of these people don't realise they are using AI? If they use Google Search they have no choice but to use AI. So yes, maybe half of American adults do use and I expect a lot of Uk adults do to, but I bet most of them don't realise it. Myself, i avoid the rubbish.
    • They use FREE AI. They aren't paying for this meme-generating slopware...
