Final Fantasy X HD re-release

Recommended Posts

Check out Project Avalanche and Phoenix for FF7. It is pretty cool. I have it installed on PC, and they retextured a lot of things (characters in world/NPCs/Battle Characters/World Map.) Along with MP3 Quality sounds instead of midi, and changing the ingame menus for items, materia, pictures, etc. It is really odd though everytime you hit an FMV though, as you go back to blocky short characters, instead of full-size retexture models.

Eh, I remember those updates. They were all right, but I think you'd have a better experience loading FF7 into an emulator with maxed out settings. If I remember right, those mp3s were just recordings of MIDI playback because MIDI can sound different from one sound card to the next. With the right processing and handling, software could take a MIDI file and make it sound much better than a lossy, looping mp3, but the mp3 is the easier path.

None of it improves the low-resolution pre-rendered backdrops. Those look awful anywhere other than a <20" CRT TV.

Hense remake. That way they can improve upon what was shoddy in those, but still keep what was great. 8 had the best story I believe still to this day.

I loved Final Fantasy VIII's story as well. I didn't like the over-reliance on Guardian Forces and their long, drawn out animations, but the characters, the story, and the world were all great IMO. It would be interesting to see Square try to "fix" that game, as it were.

As for Final Fantasy X, I actually enjoyed that game. There seems to be a certain sense of snobbery in the Final Fantasy world, where any complement directed at any Final Fantasy game post-FFVI paints you as some sort of lesser gamer. FFX definitely wasn't perfect (the seeds of ridiculous storytelling were planted here and came to full fruition in FFXIII), but it had a great battle system, cool characters, and some pretty fun optional stuff as well. I'll probably get the HD remaster on Vita when it releases.

FFX is my favorite game ever. Loved everything about it, graphics, story, gameplay, music. I hope this is one of those game you can play on the PS3 save and continue on the Vita. Do we have to buy the game twice to play on both PS3 and Vita?

This thread should be in Sony's subforums.

X was not that bad of a game and it started an era of new final fantasy style (linear games) as far as an HD remix goes I would most likely buy it at some point just to have it around since i no longer keep my PS2 connected to the television.

it wasnt' just the game play. the story was horrible too. The main characters weren't even personally invested in the story until the third disc when they realized they grew up in a orphanage together. Until then, most of them were just taking orders. How boring is that?

I hope FF VII will be a complete remake from scratch and a launch game for the PlayStation 4. They are overdue, people have been crying out loud for it in the forums since the PS2 was released I guess. The FF VII intro to show off the PS3?s power before it was released was a huge tease and I?m sure it pushed people to buy the PS3? but the remake never happened. But right now is not the time to release it, because we?re at the end of current-gen's consoles cycles. Better assume their mistake for not having released it on time, and release it on brand new hardware and use it at its best.

About FFX, I had mixed feelings about it. It was too linear, and God was Tidus annoying as a main character with his douchebagness exploding from everywhere? let alone Wakka with his over-annoying accent. Also, the possibility of upgrading all your characters to become the same fighters with the same powers and same characteristics at the end of the game ruined it. This is one of the reasons why I loved FF IX, each character had something special that made us want to choose him/her in our battle (this was true for everyone except Quina).

If they rework the graphics just a bit to make them 1080p and change the audio for lossless quality audio, those gold-diggers can keep their game for themselves.

I wish Squaresoft hadn?t merged with Enix. :/

I want to see a remaster of FF12 next. (I've pretty much given up hope for 7-9 as it seems too much work for Square to be bothered with).

I believe them when they talk about the time and resources that those games would require. When technology allows them to do it easily, it will be done. I would have assume that 7, 8, and 9 will all happen/be announced before 2020.

Quite enjoyed X, will buy.

I would love to see all PS2 FF games remastered and both KH games too.

I think there was only two linear Final Fantasy games; X and XIII, and X wasn't that linear... when you compare it too XIII any way IMO

Personally, I would of love to seen a XII re-release; it was the PS2 pinnacle of what I feel Final Fantasy games are before VII came out (excluding IX which was pretty true to the original Final Fantasy image). Mind you, the online games, XI and XIV, keep to that original style as well.

You're right. I thought it might have been multiplatform, but it seems it will only be on PS3 and Vita. If a Mod would be so kind as to move this to the Sony sub-forum, I would appreciate it.

FFX was my first Final Fantasy game, I loved it. Never truly got into the others.

This being released is just simply amazing for me, I really cannot wait to get my hands on it. Any idea when we could see a Release Date?

I hope that they change the UI for the game - as FFX had the worst looking title screen and menus in the known universe.

My eyeeees! xP

Oh crap I'd forgotten about that?!

I really liked Final Fantasy X too. I clocked up a huge amount of hours in the game as i went for all the Dark Aeons and celestial weapons. Dark Anima had like 6 million HP i think

I'd love to see a Final Fantasy XII remake too. I don't think i appreciated at the time what a great RPG it was. Sure the story and characters were a bit forgettable but the game mechanics were spot on.

They're not going to remaster the PS1 games, it's just too much work.

All they need to do with PS2 games is knock up the resolution and re-draw 2D stuff and ramp up the textures. Which probably wouldn't take a whole lot of work if you consider that they probably already have their top quality, uncompressed textures on file somewhere. :p

    • BS, I've yet to run into a typical pc user that uses it at all, let alone half the population.

    • The site is pretty sparse on features / tech specs. Can I plug it into a PC/hone/Switch via USB-C and use it as an external display? If so, what's the virtual resolution of the screen, the refresh rate, PPI of the image etc? Is the text crisp enough to use for coding at say 12pt? Is it good enough for playing dark games, like say Path of Exile 2? How about fast games like car racing games? Just how do they expect anyone to order this thing without giving out all this info?
