Holey
The drive itself is gone, good luck getting files off it, but you can never use that harddrive again unfortunately. The Dark Knight
If it is not showing up in Windows, then I don't think you can do anything. You could try burning a Linux live CD and then check if it is accessible. The Dark Knight
Ok, in that case, use UNetbootin along with a Linux ISO and create a bootable pen drive with it. But check beforehand that your laptop supports USB booting. Not all do unfortunately. I can understand how frustrating it must be, having lost 500GB of data once myself. Is this data that you can get again, or is it personal stuff like home photos and videos? The Dark Knight
If it is extremely critical data, then I suggest you give it to a professional data recovery center. But keep in mind, your bill can be several thousand dollars! It all depends on how much data there is, and what steps they take to recover it. killerninja
i havent lost anything critical really, except my autobiography which was 20,000 words in progress. It's on an old hard drive still, so thats okay. the main thing is the 950MB of movies and tv shows and all that junk that I have now lost. All those downloads ughhhhhhhhh. Guest glyfz
It is the actual hard drive, I've had a few die that way over the years. One "trick you can try is to put it in a bag and then freeze it. Sometimes it will works fine for a bit once removed, enough to transfer your data. Never tried it with an enclosure but don't see why that would make a difference. Either try it or Google it. MillionVoltss
There's not much you can do, The best is too leave it over night and copy to a hardisk on your pc in one go and throw it out after. Its slower copying to another external drive. As said before using linux or Live to access it ? Also http://www.grc.com/intro.htm worth reading, not used it myself but heard good things. Will it mount on IDE ? This is why ive bought a Blu Ray writer, ive a had practically unused disk die on me, most annoying. Detection
Take it out of the enclosure, stick it as a secondary drive in a PC, see if you can access it that way If you can't, run "Spinrite" on it overnight and try again Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1056720-lacie-1tb-external-hard-drive-clicking-help/#findComment-594737710 Share on other sites
