I was @ Best Buy last week, about to buy my fiance a Samsung Galaxy Tab when another customer came up to me and started talking. Apparently he had developed some medical apps for Andriod. This caught my attention because my fiance is using this for notes on her patients & drug info (shes a Pediatric Nurse Practioner). He told me that the current Tablet would not get Ice Cream Sandwich - that I should wait a couple of months for a new one that will have a dual core processor & come with Andriod ICS.

I dont know exactly what he is talking about as I am a n00b when it comes to tablets. Is the tablet he was referring to a Galaxy II, Galaxy III, or was he completely full of it ? I will say he obviously knew what he was talking about, its just I dont.

My question is, what model will come with ICS, what size, and when ?

I googled Galaxy Tablet & Ice Cream Sandwich but couldnt find anything solid that was very recent - everything was right around Christmas.

Thanks

I didnt know the Galaxy II was a phone as well -

I just found out the Galaxy III was a phone

I dont think it was the Galaxy Note - but honestly - the whole time he was talking I was deciding if he was full of it - and why did he feel the need to walk up to me

I think he was referring to the original 7" Galaxy tablet, which indeed won't get ICS: http://9to5google.com/2011/12/23/samsung-says-no-to-ice-cream-sandwich-on-the-original-galaxy-smartphone-and-tablet/

The newer Galaxy tablets running Android 3.x currently will get the ICS update: http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/12/20/samsung-announces-ice-cream-sandwich-update-for-galaxy-smartphones-tablets/

Cant seem to find the official samsung link but here:

Starting in the first quarter of 2012, Samsung plans to update the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note to the new mobile OS. After that, the Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7, and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus will follow suit, the company said in a blog post.

Thanks Guys -

Mephisto - Come to think of it - that was exactly what he was saying - he told me not to get that Galaxy tablet because it couldnt support ICS - I told him it wasnt important - my fiance just needs it for notes & Rx database - he said the new one will have a dual-core processor.

If you are looking for a 10" TAB take a look at the ASUS transformer. It has a keyboard(additional cost) that can be conected to add additional ports and battery. Can give up to 16 hours of use (depending on settings).

It will get ICS update sometime in February.

There are two model a TF201 and a TF101 main diference is processor and screen fro the use you described I would stick wiht the TF101.
