Ahh, world of warcraft. I miss their forums, entire pages of tears/threats to go to the newspapers over an unexpected one hour outage. And as anyone who's been on there knows, that isn't an exaggeration, watching people rage about how "their rights have been violated" and they're going to take Blizzard to court because downtime lasted longer than expected is pure comedy gold.

On the other hand 12 hours maintenance downtime is pure comedy for a computer engineer too ;)

I've worked on really big database. One with the informations of 7 millions people in. Lot of informations ;) some tables had well over 100 millions records.

I just imagine myself going to see my boss back then and telling him "boss we will need to stop the service for 12 hours because we need to do a maintenance" lol. The answer would have been you're fired.

Which is true but like my longer post that is filled with grammatical errors that I can now not edit states, the two games pull in all types of people, not just one for each game. Putting all of them into one category each and then comparing them just doesn't make sense.

You are adding things to the poll that are not there. The poll doesn't say anything about anything you listed. Everyone here probably agrees with the points you made, but the poll says nothing about that. It is throwing all WOW players into one group and all Minecraft players into one group and then comparing them.

Well, that's what the poll says to me, and I do group them all together because I don't play either and all of the players combined makes up the game's ecosystem which I'm rating. By being overly technical you could never compare anything to anything else in the world. You could say you can't compare Windows to OS X because they are based on different platforms, you could say you can't compare Android to iOS because they are different OSes, you could say you can't compare one Android phone to another if they are made by different manufacturers, all of these technicalities would be valid points, but you can still generalize, which is what I'm doing. I can see where it would be more difficult to generalize if you play one or both a lot though. To me it's not difficult at all. I'm taking the worst and most annoying players from one and comparing it to the worst and most annoying players of the other, regardless of what kind of players they are. I rarely hear much about Minecraft unless someone makes something cool and posts a YouTube video. I hear WoW whiners far more frequently, so that's how I'm judging it. To me it just sounds like one group that doesn't want to be associated with the other so they are making it sound like they are more different than they are. To me they are both people playing a video game, simple as that.

Also, I use to play WOW when it wasn't such a casual game like it is now. When an account got hacked, none of my friends cried. So again, it is a generalization that is nothing more than ignorant stereotyping. How is the crying behavor you describe any different from DOTA, COD, BF, or any other game that requires time different from WOW or Minecraft? I have listened to fits of rage in every game. Saying that there is something inherently worse about either game is ignorant. Also, to claim that they are avoiding social interaction with "real humans" makes me have a few questions. What is a fake human? Do you not considering two people talking to each other over the internet social interaction with real humans? If not, that means we are all wasting our time discussing things on this tech forum according to your logic. If anything, playing online games is more socially interactive than watching tv, reading books/magazines, etc.

To answer your questions: The crying behavior is no different than any other game, but WoW has a LOT more. I can't say I've ever heard anyone claim their life was over because they lost their CoD character. There's a fair number of WoW players that probably spend more time in that game than they do in real life. Which brings me to real humans and to answer your question, no, I do not consider talking to strangers over the internet you're playing a game with as real human interaction. I also don't consider talking to people on a message board real social interaction, though somewhere like here it could be a little more so since you get to know the people a little more, but I suppose you could have the same situation, regardless no, I don't consider that real human interaction. I would dare say that if you consider all of this real human interaction, it probably says a lot about your social life. I can't argue at all with your comparison to watching tv or reading books or magazines either, that's obviously not real human interaction at all. I'm talking about actually going outside and talking to other people in the flesh. I suppose I don't fit the typical "nerd" paradigm because I chat online when I'm bored, actually almost only at work, and when I leave work, I go home, change, and then go hang out with my friends. Sure I have some friends I chat with online sometimes, but that's interaction with a words on a computer screen, even if a human is on the other end. You probably don't know a damn thing about that person, they could be lying about everything they say, I've seen it quite often.

That's not to say a message board or playing online is pointless or a waste of time, we share a lot of knowledge here, and help take up some spare time talking to people who don't even know who you really are. I've got no issue with it, but I don't consider it real human interaction, no. That's just my opinion. I see a comparison, so I voted. If you don't see one, then you may certainly choose not to vote.

Language nazi says: When comparing only two things with one another other, make sure to use "worse" instead of the superlative "worst" in your question!

What bout a neither option?

I play both :D or at least I used to play wow gave it up for Minecraft :D

This.

Best vote = Null vote.

There are so many WOW players that are not "bad" at all, yet, enough to produce a critical mass of annoying people.

Now I bet most of those 11 million (or more actually) WoW players are perfectly fine people.

If its what community is worse overall then neither. There both great. Its how you choose to use them and the company you keep/follow on them. Learn to ignore the brats and dont click on things which are clearly just mince. i.e. "OMGZ LOL 85 SUXOR" link, and your clicking all over it.

Thats just asking for the worst.

But if you can get past them, then play the game, ignore the rest. There not compulsory or anything......

Mind you some of the WOW freak-outs and break downs ive heard over vent..... But I dont think its something universal, not after hearing some of the Live chatter, christ!!
