Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Recommended Posts

Direction wasn't the only problem as Shatner had directed before in TOS: there was a writers strike, Bennett had to be dragged back into the project, the budget was tight so they hired non-union truckers & the Teamsters retaliated by getting friendly pilots to fly over the location sets, and because of ILM they did a lot of the effects themselves in-camera on set. Bran Ferren's (ex-Disney) effects company Associates and Ferren did the rest. It's lucky to have even been shot.

ILM had no involvement with STV. Producer Ralph Winter felt they cost too much, plus he was butthurt by the "Co-produced by Industrial Light & Magic" credit they got in STAR TREK IV.

The only ILM shots in the film are stock shots from STAR TREK IV: the shuttles approaching Spacedock and the Enterprise inside Spacedock during Scotty's log entry.

After the disaster Ferren delivered they were sure to get ILM back for THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY.
