This announcement comes out of the left field.

Indeed it does! It's clear that the Verge announcement was under a hell of an NDA for this one. Looks to be a very good upgrade to OS X. Looking forward to getting home and getting the preview!

Ah come on :/ I stay home from work to get working on a new game and Apple does this? Now I have to resist downloading and installing it :(

Edit: AH! the dev center is down...... hopefully I can get back in "working" mode and just keep working (not likely)

So far from what I have seen, I don't think this would cause Windows team to lose any sleep.

Its just an an upgrade, despite what many analysts are calling it, such as those at Bloomberg. Calling it 'Apple's answer to Windows 8'.

It certainly is not.

what happens when apple reaches v11? you think it's going to be a ground-up redesign? i mean, OS X has been around forever now...

All i do know is it looks like they're already running out of names. Leopard -> Snow Leopard, Lion -> Mountain Lion.

Although considering that Puma, Panther and Mountain Lion are essentially the same cat, they'll have to call 10.9 OS X Cougar. Rawwwr.

    • No thanks! WebView trash is unacceptable. I only use software that's native.
    • The way the human race is going it will die out long before then and it will be the human race fault. They will either die out due to a nuclear war or climate change will kill them off. I say Nuclear war myself and I don't think it will be that long before it happens
