Installing the update now. ML has been really stable for me the past couple builds now, I think an early-to-mid July release is very possible. I still say July 20, though, as it will be exactly one year after Lion.

Here, since i knew you was gonna ask.

Cool, I actually like that Mail icon more, though.

In fact, one thing I thought would have been a neat little gimmick would have been if the Mail icon was changed in each major release to represent the cat. So, this one would have had the mountain lion within the icon, rather than the eagle they've been using for a long time.

i like this idea.. the eagle mail icon needs to go and it would be great to have it match each major release of OS X.

I just noticed something... A feature got axed!

Apple Updates Mountain Lion Developer Preview With New Security Features

Apple has issued a new update for Mountain Lion Developer Preview 4 via the Mac App Store. It was first noticed by Twitter user @Lhunar and introduces the new Mountain Lion Security Update system.

The new system does daily checks for security updates as Apple ramps up its security protocols in the next-generation operating system. Earlier this month, it was noticed that Apple had changed the language on its OS X marketing pages following the Flashback malware attack earlier this year.

The new security system in Mountain Lion -- including Gatekeeper and other features -- appears to be a significant expansion of the XProtect system that Apple has used in the past to try to thwart OS X malware.

OS X Security Update Test 1.0 -- Restart Required

This update tests the new Mountain Lion Security Updates system. The new system includes:

- Daily Checks for required security updates

- The ability to install required security updates automatically or after restarting your Mac

- A more secure connection to Apple's update servers.

This update includes general updates and improvements to Mountain Lion Developer Preview 4.

The update weighs in at 1.16GB and is available to developers with Mountain Lion DP4 installed via the Mac App Store.

Indeed, definately in need of (another) revamp.

I really don't get it. On my 2010 iMac with ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB (BTO option instead of default) scrolling in the App Store lags like crazy. This was from the very beginning when it got released with OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.6. Same story on a friend's mid 2011 iMac. It's the only build-in app with this issue. Even iTunes scrolls infinitely smoother.

I also noticed you can't force App Store to re-download an app holding down option like you could on OS X Lion. That means we won't be able to easily re-download the OS X Mountain Lion installer that have been updated to newer versions i.e. v10.8.1, v10.8.2 etc. :(

PS When launching Safari the address bar still doesn't always take focus with the latest update.

Hit "Tab"

Hit "Tab"

You mean hit it three times when a window opens in Top Sites, twice when it opens with the Apple website, etc.

Point is before the address and search bar would always take focus when opening a new window. Now sporadically not.

I still don't really care for Safari 6's Web Inspector. The old one seemed much easier to work with when it came to isolating images or video. (I often used it to download embedded videos, for example.) I can't seem to do any of this on the new one, although I'm sure it's possible, I just don't know how because it's been completely changed up.

The only thing thats 'pulling' me back to Safari is the iCloud Tabs. But then I can have up-to 30 tabs open at a time and Safari just cannot handle this without consuming crazy amounts of memory.

I'll stick with Chrome for now.

I've found the new one to be nicer for actually developing web sites/apps, so maybe it's a tradeoff. It doesn't seem any harder to pick out images, but picking out video files from Flash players is definitely harder than using the old Activity Monitor.

Really? Chrome has always been more of a memory hog for me. 367MB (Safari host process + Web Content process) for 11 tabs seems pretty tame to me. Chrome with one tab open (if you count the about:memory page as a tab) is using up 348MB.

Personally I don't know how much memory my apps are using and I honestly I couldn't care less since my iMac never slows down.

Same here, although i just checked and chrome is using 136MB.

Why would anyone need 30 tabs open? thats what the favourites bar is for.

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • I've never even heard of this browser before seeing this article. How does it differ from other browsers?
    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
