All Macs come pre-installed with an OS and a USB stick to install the OS from.

Alternatively you can create one from the App Store image.

In my case I've a 2011 iMac, bought from eBay and formatted with a MBR file system. In the App Store Image there is not InstallerESD (I forget what it's called). Didn't apple say they wouldnt be doing the USB key thing anymore but it was an interesting experiment.

Anyhoo I'm still wondering what I do in this situation which I bet quite a few people are. Either a, how to create a bootable ML usb drive that will allow use of disk editor (didn't see that option when installing on a MBP with Guid) or is there really no choice but to install SL then upgrade?

What would happen if you are in dire straits, hdd dies etc, you replace it. How do you install ML then?

BaseSystem.dmg and the method of creating a USB stick is still the same.

You can most likely fit them in a small room - no one in their right mind formats the drive to MBR since all operating systems of any value work fine with GPT.

That notification center is quite useless imo. I hope more apps start supporting it. ML is more like a service pack imo but I'm happy. Its fast and snappy.

I found it quite annoying on the beta really, if i send messages on my phone all day then get home and open the macbook, iMessage automatically appears and starts going crazy bouncing and downloading all of the messages, you can close it but it will come back if not finished.

Hopefully this annoyance is fixed in the final/ml release? or is it still in beta?

Only few apps supporting a new feature of a still unreleased system. Hmmm, imagine that!

GM will be the final if no showstopper bug founded.

Well, for newer Macs, it's not an issue. They all have an in-firmware Internet Recovery Partition.

For older Macs, http://support.apple...US&locale=en_US should work, and if it doesn't yet it'll probably be upgraded to work. You can also still do the "whole installer on a key" method.

Is there no way at all to hide downloaded App Store apps or at the very least be able to arrange/re-order that big list of purchased items? Because the list is getting rather lengthy for me and it has some apps on it that I don't need to be displayed (such as old ML builds.)

Right click a purchase and click "Hide purchase".

For whatever reason the App Store doesn't fully respect the system language so it's partially in Dutch. Anyway, "Aankoop verbergen..." means "Hide purchase?". "Aankopen" means "Purchases". Should be enough for you to figure it out. ;)

Because he's running a pirated copy? Anyway, yes.

yeah basically just wants to install ML on a new Macbook, rather than wait for it's release.

I think all new mac orders get it for free anyway? so you could call it 'taking it a few days early for convenience' rather than piracy

I hope they improve Launchpad in future releases. There should be a method to move multiple icons at once and I wouldn't mind a way to easily completely clear/delete the Launchpad, either. (Outside of using Terminal commands.)

Does anybody mentioned that is now possible to rearrange the categories on Finder's sidebar? So who liked the "Devices" better on top in Snow Leopard, can change it to like that. Here is a pic:

I remember that some people hated that the Devices section is on the bottom in Lion's Finder.

Not sure if this has been mentioned. Just wanted to throw this out there.

Growl users who would like to see the notifications in Notification Center there's now an app for that called Hiss, here http://collect3.com.au/hiss/

Took the link from macbay.dk - haven't heard of it before I read about it today.

Some debate about whether it's for MAS applications or others too.

Should be getting a Mountain Lion compatible Mac in the near future. Looking forward to using Mountain Lion. Everything seems to fall into place with what Apple tried to accomplish with Lion. 64bit et all. I tried my best to get ML onto this MBP2,2 - only to be stopped by the requirement of a 64bit EFI. And most likely anything else.

Messages connects fine here for facebook throught jabber. Just make sure you disable SSL. And it will work. With SSL enabled, it never connects. And use 5222 port.

Thanks for the input. That?s what I did, but it?s not working either. I believe it has to do with the fact that I have a Facebook page open in Safari, I have to investigate this a little more.

Recording a video through Photo Booth results in sound desync after about a minute. The desynchronization follows the chaos theory, meaning that it the desync becomes worse and worse over the time.

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • I've never even heard of this browser before seeing this article. How does it differ from other browsers?
    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
