So I'm confused about something, hopefully you guys can clear it up.

I bought iWork long before it hit the Mac App Store. I updated to Mountain Lion earlier, but noticed that Pages didn't have the iCloud stuff yet. So I checked for an update, and of course the new Software Update link opens the Mac App Store, but no update available for me. Yet my version stands at 5.1 and the version in the App Store is 5.2. How can I get this update without having to repurchase it?

Software Update Use this method if you originally purchased iWork in a box or downloaded and then activated a trial version of iWork.

Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to automatically check for the latest Apple software, including this update (Software Update might have linked you to this article to learn more about the update.) If your computer is not up-to-date, other software updates available for your computer may appear. Note that an update's size may vary from computer to computer when installed using Software Update. Also, some updates must be installed prior to others, so you should run Software Update more than once to make sure you have all available updates. OS X Lion v10.7.4 or later is required to run this update.

Standalone Installer - Use this method if you originally purchased iWork in a box or downloaded and then activated a trial version of iWork. This is an alternative method to the Software Update method above.

Download the update installer, and run it manually. This is a useful option when you need to update multiple computers, but only want to download the update once. Standalone installers for iWork 9.2 are available on the Apple Support Downloads page. OS X Lion v10.7.4 or later is required to run this update. (http://support.apple.com/downloads/)

I thought you were waiting for v10.8.1? :p

This thread convinced me. I had a great experience with Snow Leopard, a refinement release, so I thought this would be the same as is a similar kind of release.

OS X Mountain Lion is probably the most solid release so far. I haven't encountered any serious bugs.

I agree. I never had serious issues with Lion, but it never seemed as polished as Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion, on the other hand, is super smooth.

With regard to iCloud, I am loving how simple it is to move things to it, and for the most part, no issues syncing between my machines. But I am curious, things that are uploaded to iCloud via Preview, is there a way to get those in iOS? Possible Preview.app coming to iOS? I moved all of my PDFs to the Preview.app and can get to them on my other machines just fine, but having them available on the go would be great too.

Did an upgrade install from Lion. Feels pretty snappy so far. Already had to force quit the App Store. It locked up when I was downloading updates and put my computer to sleep before the updates were done downloading. Upon wake up, it became unresponsive and I had to force quit it.

The system does feel snappier though. Not sure if it is placebo effect or not. Safari feels really zippy but I can't help but think it feels that way because of the progress bar animation "blasting off".

I can't change the wallpaper on my Mountain Lion. Anyone got this issue or know of a fix?

I have had no issues with that here. Just right-click on the photo you want to use as the wallpaper and click on Set Desktop Picture

That doesn't work either. I've tried everything, using in-browser right click, right clicking a file in the finder, using 3rd party apps etc nothing will change it.

Did you do an upgrade or did you do a "clean" install?

I personally did a "clean"install. I know it's a pain, but it's much, much better than an upgrade.

Trying to get a clean install done, but it's been a disaster so far. Installer from USB crashed saying the install failed, then booted to the normal install finalization screen... Made it to tr desktop then died hard.

Trying the recovery partition download option this time.

I did an upgrade

Seriously this shouldn't be happening regardless. I hope they fix this with an update or something.

EDIT:// ok this is weird, I just rebooted and now I can change the wallpaper. I've rebooted before and that didn't fix it but now it just randomly is working? hm lol

I think something must have gotten messed up when you did the upgrade. That's why you should never do upgrades, always clean installs, unless of course it's a corporate environment. Upgrades are never good. Garbage from the previous OS always stays behind no matter what.

Anyways, got you got it working, but if it happens again, do a clean install.

    • It is, but it also has a bad performance reputation even on high-end gaming PCs. Some people say it's the engine's fault, others say it's the games developers' fault, who knows... At the end of the day, for the average gamer, the take is this: PC game with Unreal Engine 5? Be affraid and cross your fingers, it's a 50/50 chance.
    • 25th anniversary Xbox Series X unveiled with classic translucent green design by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The Xbox Games Showcase had a new Xbox console reveal from Microsoft celebrating the gaming brand turning 25 years old. This is to be a new limited edition Xbox Series X and controller collection that draws on the design of the rare green version of the original Xbox console. The "XBOX Series X25 Limited Edition" is coming out later this year with its matching controller. "Inspired by the look and feel of the original XBOX console, both the console and controller feature a translucent OG Green design, with subtle tributes to the journey we’ve been on together," said Microsoft in the announcement. The Xbox Series X|S line has received several new variants over the years, but this will be the first edition with a translucent design. The Xbox Series X25 will have one terabyte of internal storage and a green light on the X to signify the console lines' history. There is a 25th anniversary logo printed on the front plate. Microsoft is also teasing that the community will be able to find "a few hidden surprises throughout" the machine as well. As for the new X25 Special Edition Xbox controller, this is also coming with the classic translucent green design for its front and back plates. "From the original ABXY colors, to the timeless green, every detail calls back to the beginning, including the bumpers honoring the original black and white buttons on the original “Duke” controller," says the company about this release. "The back case and battery door are fully transparent, revealing the classic XBOX logo." The XBOX 25th anniversary collection, containing both the translucent console and controller, will be available for purchase in November 2026 as a limited-edition release. Microsoft will be offering the new XBOX Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition separately as well. Pricing details and pre-order information will be coming later.
