I thought I was going insane: Transmission kept giving out Growl-like notifications yet I removed Growl the second after Adobe CS5 finished installing. Kept searching in Activity Monitor and Library but couldn't find anything. Turns out Transmission has its own build-in notifications now. :pinch:

And hopefully it'll begin using the OS X API on ML

I don?t see it listed in the changelog.

Is it because Growl now costs something ? At least I know Transmission will make good use of the new Notifications Center in Mountain Lion the second it?s released. I wouldn?t be able to stand 3rd-party notifications when Growl is already perfect to me. At least go the native way if Growl is not a solution anymore !

Mist notifications: basic notification support for users without Growl
At least I know Transmission will make good use of the new Notifications Center in Mountain Lion the second it?s released.

Except it won't. Notifications can only be used by App Store apps, which I think is an ******* move of Apple. So unless Transmission is added to the App Store, no notifications for it.

Wow I missed it. Mist notifications, huh?

Yeah, I?m also scared about Transmission being rejected in the App Store. I?m crossing my fingers, because there?s a LOT of legal stuff to download out there with it. I forgot about the part where Notifications could only be used by apps coming from there. Bad move, Apple. They?re only trying to push developers to use the App Store, because there is no technical reason why a non-App Store app won?t be able to use this API.

They should try putting Transmission on the App Store right away to see how the story ends on Apple?s side?

There are so many legit things that are distributed over BitTorrent. There really is no reason why Transmission should be rejected from the App Store, but I have a feeling Apple will never allow it. It would be great to have native Notification Center support in ML.

After digging up a little bit, I have found something that will make .Neo joyous :)

NOT.

More like the opposite in fact.

What Mist notifications are all about : http://growl.info/do...-growl.php#mist

At least they?re not a completely different implementation from Growl. I only can?t believe how intrusive they can be!
