8 Features Win8 Took From Linux

Recommended Posts

What the Ubuntu team conveniently forgot to mention in their post is that their menu search thing has actually been a part of OS X since the OS X Tiger Developer Previews dating all the way back to 2004-05. Staggering really. But as always let's just pretend those things never occurred the way they did.

KDE 2.0 had search in the menu -- and it would popup results .. with the first 2 or more letters.. and this was in 2000....not to mention-- in KDE 2.1 there were bouncing icons on the menu when they were selected (this was an effect that was not enabled by default but still an option to enable it)... yes please pretend away...

I don't see any exaggerating in that article, those are the nice features Windows adopted in 8 & are already present in Linux (& some in mac),

So you REALLY think that Microsoft stole Metro from Linux?

summary of silly things they claim were "borrowed".

most of which is just the next step in technology, such as USB 3.

1. File copy dialogue

2. ISO mounting

3. Windows To Go

4. The Metro UI

5. Social integration

6. Native support for USB 3.0

7. Cloud integration

8. ReFS

Social integration? they stole that from Apple. Cloud integration? Apple again. USB3? Really? thats an industry standard, therefore dosen't count, because EVERYONE will support it.

*looks at linux desktop*

I looked at the list, and it looks like the biggest load of rubbish I've read.

EVERYONE knows linux stole USB3 from DOS fgs!

Holy crap it actually exists...

The best part is they're like "We're totally cool about it. It's actually a great thing to be imitated" ... Living in a bubble level 9000

As others have said imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I've got no problem with OS's borrowing features from each other, in fact quite the opposite, I think we all benefit from it. Now patenting such ideas, that's a whole different discussion. I'm 100% against software patents.

I think you are generalizing a bit.

One could also ask "why are German always like that?", considering the poster is German.

Yes I am, but isn't it like that with every release of Windows? Every time Microsoft releases a new OS Linux users start to b***h around and claim that Microsoft stole something from them?

This is just an assumption. If Linux GNOME, KDE, XFCE, etc. took stuff from Windows. Windows users will complain to heaven's on end, but if it's vice-versa. Windows users would say it is okay and stop crying about it. JS.

Did Windows users actually did what you described here? If not, welcome to the logical fallacy club.
