New Star Wars Kinect footage

what a complete joke. no wonder i ended up giving my nephew my kinect. even the "serious" games had to have dancing in it.

If you want a serious kinect game that's looking good then you should look at the new Steel Battalion game coming. So far it seems to be a good mix of kinect + controller gameplay one would expect.

Based of games developed in under a year after launch?

Yep. I think a year is plenty of time to start forming an opinion on a produc. While I do not necessarily agree with it, gamers are more than willing to write a system off based on launch titles on a system, never-mind an entire year. Also keep in mind developers have had it much longer than when it was released to the public for consumption, so that year is probably more like a year and a half if not longer. So absolutely, based on what has been released thus far, which again is completely fair to make a judgement on it since it has been a year.

IMO Kinect has not yet delivered of being a massive game changer and there is no denying that most of the better games for it appeal to a younger audience and/or are dance related. And as far as the amazing titles coming up, let's look at Ryse. Besides pretty graphics, as of right now I am not sure what other than the graphics indicate it is going to be an amazing Kinect experience. The brief clips of gameplay that have been shown more or less indicate it is going to be similar to other Kinect based games. Arm for weapon, etc. etc. So not sure that equals an amazing experience.

I think SMELTN hit the nail on the head. For more serious gaming, Kinect works when it is in addition to a controller, such as Forza or ME3 or Ghost Recon. When it is the only controller, it appeals more to casual gamers. Pretty much the best thing that could have happened to me is I did not have enough room in my living room to set it up when I purchased one at launch, or else it would be another dust catcher on my entertainment stand, and there are plenty of them between the Wii and Sony Move and all of the other motion based controllers I tried to get into but just could not.

I think this gameplay video of the Star Wars Kinect game just exemplifies the overall larger problem of Kinect. That most games that use it as the primary controller are not all that serious on the gameplay front. These games no doubt have their audience and for those who do enjoy them it is a perfect fit, but for 'adults" as SMELTN put it, so far it has yet to deliver.

It's hard to tell from that trailer. but from all that's been said about this game in the past and what's been shown, it's still a more serious main game about being a Jedi/Sith and fighting. and the other stuff, the racing and dancing are just extras and side quests you can do and not the main game. but fun bonus things.

I remember a time when people applauded when games included fun little bonus games, instead of whining that they get more than the main game. And besides as silly as the dancing was. Did you not smile at it, did you not think it was fun ? isn't that one of the main things you should expect in your entertainment some good laughs ? people are takign stuff way to seriously.

Imagine if in the middle of Gears of War:Kinect, you suddenly had a min-game where Marcus does a dance routine. That's how messed up I feel after looking at it. There are mini-games and then there are "we'll just throw something in there to justify the cover price".

Well it would be just as fun and just as optional, so what's the problem?
