Half Life 2 Beta leaked?

Recommended Posts

Ok first of all people. This is not a beta! This is the E3 Demo that was leaked! Its not even Alpha! Do not judge this as what to expect from the game since this is very old!

Also this is not the source code that was stolen and leaked...thats a whole another story!

I feel sorry for anyone who thinks they can judge a game by looking at compressed Jpegs of a Pre-alpha demo!

Also respect the fact this was never meant to be released so what you are looking at is optimized for one system spec and one system spec only (the demo machine) so what is happening is that they probably dont have the correct driver set and video card to run this since they probably didnt add any other support. So my bet is that you are seeing unaccelatored shots.

Mind you whoever is judging this game by what they see now will change their tune when the game comes out anyway so im not really worried about the fair weather fans.

BTW this is my first post so Hello.

I would like to say to those who thinks that this beta doesnt look good, that, is because their PC suck.

I seen proof that the beta is pretty amasing here: http://www.thecallofduty.co.uk/site/forum_...pic.php?33.1339

Now prepare to sh*t your pants! :D

Holey **** on a stick :o (and in PrivatePropertie's avatar :D )

omg its looks like steam lets make a big fuss about it, gawd...

It's the new vgui interface, which itself has little to do with Steam, it's just a nicer interface method. Steam uses it as well, which is why it looks like it. But it's not steam, it's vgui.

For the people who still say this was compiled from the leaked sourcecode: No, it was not. The source code was missing a lot of things needed to have a working game compiled from it.. This is most likely compiled for in-house beta testing newly implemented features, or for video card venders. I doubt this release was for video card vendors though.

For the people complaining about the leaked beta ruining the game for them: Get a life, no it's not. The game will be just as good. Don't download it then, or don't look at the screenshots. Either way, if you just came to this thread to complain - Leave.

For valve: Nice game so far, looking forward to the release. Not losing me from your buying customer list. In fact, these screenshots (being months away from finalized), look great. I can't wait to buy retail. It's sad that you guys had two major things leaked, but I'd be more worried if people didn't care enough about the game to try to leak the ****. :)

Yeah so like...wheres the usual "Hey this is how you do this, or enable that" talk that usually follows these leak threads?

I mean i have like a bunch of gigs of files, theres stuff "missing" that was available to valve back in the E3 days, and judging from gabes post a week ago on the official forum, this is from the dude who stole the entire hl2 directory in september. So like is there a tree problem or what? has anyone been able to fix it in its extracted state so that its more usable? i mean theres too much here to have people open maps manually in console, the new game commands should work.

Whats with all the whining? So the beta is leaked.. If you dont like it then tough. Its not going to affect sales. Its not going to affect release date (although it will undoubtedly be blamed for one) The people who will buy it will still buy it, the people who weren't going to buy it still won't.

False. I've decided to not purchase it after this incident.

If that's true, you should be ashamed of yourself.

so then I guess, either not many of you guys have it yet, or just not really tweaked around with everything.

I just think it wierd that with the engine compiled at the end of august, its "missing" textures and sounds that were totally there in the E3 demo. Maybe some light will be shed on this in the next few days

    • Frankly, I blame whoever is writing such articles. "A big improvement/update and/or new feature is now available to everyone! Also, use this unofficial tweak tool to enable it because it actually isn't available to you yet officially and might not in fact even be entirely ready or whatever, hence why it is perhaps not enabled for you*. But it's great and you should enable it!" I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing info about some feature you might need to enable via unofficial means, of course. It's just that these articles tend to essentially end up being two news pieces in one, and one of them tends to be a bit misleading. (*Yes, yes, the "it's a controlled rollout!" thing. Not a fan of that one either. The argument, not the actual rollout.)
    • Thank you. Will do. I read in the release notes that editor config might be at play here.
    • Actually, I think even Microsoft doesn't know how to control it
    • OpenAI is making Codex more useful in Chrome and the cloud by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI's Codex now has more than 5 million users, up nearly 4x from earlier this year. To further accelerate Codex's growth among developers, OpenAI today announced that it has agreed to acquire Ona, a company that builds secure cloud execution and orchestration technology for developers. Ona will enable developers to run Codex with persistent and controlled cloud infrastructure for long-running agentic workflows. Right now, most Codex execution happens locally on developers' laptops and PCs, and the agents work continuously for hours. Through Ona, OpenAI aims to make Codex agents keep working for days without being tied to a user’s local machine or an active session. This will be an important capability for enterprises that want to deploy AI agents in production while maintaining control over infrastructure, data, security boundaries, credential scope, logging, and review workflows. Like any acquisition, the deal is still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until the deal closes, OpenAI and Ona will continue to operate as separate companies. After closing, Ona’s team will join the Codex team to improve developer workflows. Alongside the Ona acquisition announcement, OpenAI today introduced a few Codex updates. Developers can now save Codex rate limit resets and use them later instead of losing them when they are not needed immediately. OpenAI is also adding a referral option where users can invite a friend to Codex and get a saved rate limit reset. OpenAI today also announced a developer mode for browser use in Chrome and the Codex in-app browser. With this mode, Codex can use the Chrome DevTools Protocol to debug web apps, inspect pages, and work more directly with browser-based development workflows. Developers can use this when they want Codex to profile JavaScript, inspect console output and network traffic, examine web page states including the DOM and applied styles, and more.
