Half Life 2 Beta leaked?

Recommended Posts

I am curious, as to why the game looks so unfinished at this stage, the leak is from September.

my guess is that indeed he took the e3 demo folder but that folder itself was very raw and it was only optimized for the demo machine, like a tech demo. the real games and source code was in another folder.

well, if it was the E3 folder it wouldnt be missing stuff that they had at e3, like theres textures missing in every demo that was shown at E3. they weren't missing at E3 thats fur sure. that and the fact that expanded the 36000 files take 5 gb, and not all the files look to be in the right spots, or necessary

then a old build stored in the HD maybe?

Ok, im starting to unravel this, in searching for any texture that it lists as not found, it does find it. the files ARE there, theres way more of the game here then it would appear, maybe it only looks like a really bad beta from the raw file tree thats packed in here, but whos to say that this game doesnt have all its file pointers to directories that are specific to Gabes computer? this could be VERY close to full game as opposed to working like half an E3 demo

My opinion would be that this person didn't either have time or access to get everything HL2. Consider this: The storyline isn't even in the leak. That leads me to think that Valve had this copy that was avalible on a computer with internet access OR a shared folder from a computer with internet access.

My opinions given what i've seen thus far. If you look, all the E3 maps are near completed while the majority of the other maps have alot more work to be done. And there are some things missing in the E3 maps as well such as the tank filled with liquid that can be seen in the Kleiner bink movie. The fact that the tank is missing in this and existed in the E3 video means this build is pre E3.

What im saying is that maybe the storyline is in the leak. I wouldn't judge the game by the way it runs as is. events, models, sounds, etc are all not being pointed to, and coming up as missing, this is akin to dragging somebodies installed game and putting it on your comp, and having like many of the directories not even accessed because the base directory of all the files as changed to whatever the base directory is on your comp.

as I said, an old build with the levels at its raw state

as regards to people thinking that this build is pre E3, heres the facts.

If you have the game you would know that the engine was compiled sept 26th.

this plus the fact that Gabe himself posted that his hl2 directory was uploaded recently by someone. and the fact that all the missing files are actually there, its just the game that can't find them.

sorry to be the questioneer

but so i am curious, as i reach 61%, what exactly is this a beta of? Is this just the e3 tech demo? Is it the full game(like has story line and voice and stuff), but maybe missing some textures......or is it like a demo, with only limited amount of gameplay ?

thx

No one really knows yet. You can load some maps and with some enemies as well, but we really don't know exactly what version of the game is out there.

Hi new here. Just wanna say something about all this talking about alpha/beta stuff.

Yes its a beta out. 1,4 Gb big. Its NOT E3 demo. The beta IS leaked and playable so nuff said about that,

For all you who says anything else then I just wonder where you got your copies.

Its seems theres alot of Alpha/Betas out in different sizes + the stolen code.

But yes...there is a beta out and its real. Just up to you to find the right one.

Ok...if you wanna dl them and and say whatever about it. For some its cool, for some its bad. But who gives a s***?

Its up to you to decide on what side your on.

Ive tried the beta and its works ok. Not mutch more to say about it other then I will still buy the game.

They?ve worked hard for making a game like this and sure as hell I will spend my money on it to support them in the

making of more games like this.

Its bad "baseheads" like the ones who stole the stuff doing everything to completely mess everything up.

For what reason?

I sure aint feeling that mutch better about some lamers trying to show off.

Why did I dl it? Hey its out there, so why not. Im still going to by the game.

No use of a buggy beta anyway. I dont care if I later on can dl the whole game from DC.

I still wanna buy the game.

Dont think the beta will effect the amount of gamers that will buy it. I think it?ll make more wanna buy it.

But as for the stolen code. Yes it can effect negative, cus many of their secrets on how they made some of the good stuff

in the game now can be stolen and used for making the same stuff in other games or eaven better now that they know how to do it:)

The preorders of the game is MANY...so they?ll get paid for it, thats for sure.

And Im one of th:yes:es:

Yo welcome to neowin schwallster

And good opinated post, I think most of us would agree with your statement

On another note,

I think the "delay" was already planned, I mean , it woudl give them a great excuse to spend more time wokring on the game lol... but hell im sure they'd want to get it for christmas season

Yeah im totally buying the game too, but I preordered it a while back only to keep getting told by EB that the game is getting delayed later and later, so Im trying to make the most of this demo. im not the kind of person who gets turned off by bad performance or glitchy stuff in an alpha or beta. im gonna love the final release all the same.

heh i feel like valve doesn't want to stop working on this game, must be hella fun.

:woot:

whenever it comes out, i will buy it. Pre-ordered it back in May =)

EDIT: and about the leak/beat, yeah i agree that its damn good publicity, but valve doesn't like it, mainly because they don't want people judging/seeing the game in an unfinished form, when its not as good as it could be.

    • I sort of agree with you on that. I had a telescope - a real hefty thing, although only around 500CHF - that got me so fascinated about the stars and planets. I would stare for hours, amazed that I could see the craters of the moon or the rings of Saturn in "realtime" (quotations because, y'know, speed of light and whatnot). A friend of mine has a telescope like the one mentioned in the review, and the pictures are amazing to look at. But there is something missing for me. I may as well just go to NASA's website and look through their gallery.
    • As opposed to catching bad press because it's the engine's fault? You didn't really think this through did you? lol
    • I think it depends on what you're looking for to do, and the time you have to spare. With my Dwarf 3, I easily spend 3-4 hour sessions; half an hour driving to an un-light polluted place, another half hour unpacking and setting up the smart scope + tripod for equatorial tracking, then 15 more minutes mucking around with settings and shooting calibration frames, spending a few hours shooting, merging with past photo sessions, etc. It's crazy how time flies and I often get home later than I expected. It's something I still need to set aside a good part of an evening to do, all in all. For one session, where you often need like four for best results when it comes to deep space objects. Even with a smart scope like Dwarf 3, regular non-astro photography is still way more approachable to people getting into photography. I find this is a time consuming niche no matter how I go about it. With practice, I can probably begin cutting time here but I think where smart scopes find their home is among people who love to shoot the night sky but don't have the spare time to go deep with the "navigator level" attunement to the night sky itself in addition to everything else. Having said this, _if_ you have even more time to spend on this hobby, it will probably be even more rewarding to do it more by hand and learn the skies and the details of how it all works.
    • I misread the title and thought Teams itself would be redesigned. Imagine having this one as a native WinUI app.
    • Dell, HP PCs ran into endless reboot, BitLocker recovery loops but Windows 11 isn't to blame by Sayan Sen Last month Neowin reported on a major issue on Dell systems wherein a bug in its official support tool was leading to endless blue screen of death (BSOD) and restarts. Following our report, Dell officially acknowledged its SupportAssist-related crash issue, confirming that the culprit is not Microsoft's operating system but rather a faulty version of its own remediation software. In a newly published support advisory, Dell stated that version 5.5.16.0 of Dell SupportAssist Remediation and Alienware SupportAssist Remediation can trigger blue screen errors and unexpected system restarts. The company notes that the problematic component operates independently of the main SupportAssist application, meaning users should not remove the primary SupportAssist software when troubleshooting the issue. According to Dell, the crashes are linked specifically to the SupportAssist Remediation service, which is bundled with SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools, and as such it has since released an updated version, 5.5.16.1, which is said to resolve the problem. Affected users are advised to first verify whether version 5.5.16.0 is installed by checking the Installed Apps section in Windows Settings. If so, Dell recommends updating SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools through either SupportAssist's "Update Software" feature or Dell Command Update. Dell also advises users to back up important data before performing the update and to ensure systems remain connected to power throughout the installation process. If you are still having issues though make sure to report to the Dell support forum. As it turns out though Dell is not the only PC maker currently dealing with update-related headaches as HP is also facing a separate but probably equally frustrating issue involving recent Windows Secure Boot updates that were released with recent Windows 11 Patch Tuesdays. Similar to Dell, HP also put up its own support article where it explains the issue. The company says that affected devices could hit a brick wall when booting as they run into a BitLocker recovery loop after the April 2026 updates. The problem appears to affect systems wherein the new UEFI Secure Boot CA 2023 certificates fail to apply properly. As such affected users will find themselves entering their recovery key over and over again despite the system otherwise functioning normally. HP says such PCs should be updated to the latest available BIOS version and configured with the necessary Secure Boot certificates before installing Microsoft's Windows 11 Patch Tuesday updates. Systems that are already experiencing the problem may require BIOS configuration changes to restore normal boot behavior. Admins can find information regarding that in the support article here on HP's official website.
